Best plastic plates for camping?
I've been doing some research and trying to find some good plastic plates to keep in the trailer permanently. I like to have paper plates and then sturdy plates for nice meals. In doing some research, I've learned that most of common plates you'll find at Target or Walmart are made of Melamine, and this is toxic and can leach into your food when you have really hot items on the plate. Does anyone have any recommendations for plates they have found that are non toxic and durable so they last? May seem like a little thing, but I don't care to take in anymore chemicals than I have to! Take care!

We use corelle dishes. Weighs a little more, but works.

We have used Corelle in the past. Now we have Acrylic Dinnerware. Both are very light weight (although Corelle is a bit heavier than the Acrylic ) and travel well without risk of breaking while traveling.
And for those cold mornings we have our Blue Tin Camping Coffe Mugs. Keeps the hands nice and toasty.

Plastic dishes kind of suck and not because of any toxic plastic stuff (I never considered that aspect) but because they are soft and you cut a steak on a plastic plate and the knife tracks are forever and it gets worse every time they are used.
We use metal plates from Cabelas in the camping section. Work excellent and they all nest together. paper plates as a back,up.

We think the very best plastic plates are the disposable kind.

best dishes to travel with
We have had a set of polypropylene dishes and 'silverware' for 14+ years and they have stood the test of time. We also have tumblers and wine glasses. All light weight and non-breakable, for the occasional bumpy trip. Our original set was an Eddie Bauer edition that was sold at Target. I have not done any research to see what is available these days. I do use them in the microwave.

I can't afford steak......I bought a fifth wheel.
Chinet. Sam's Club, by the gross. Paper bowls. Paper small plates. One fork, and a pocket knife.

Paper all the way
I started out with nice Corelli dishes, after a couple trips they came out and paper when in. I have a dishwasher at home and don't wash dishes, why would I go on vacation and spend time washing and drying dishes when I can go for a walk with a bag of dirty paper plates for the garbage bin.

My better half found some Corelle dishes with a design she likes. I do the dishes and live by the idea that if she is happy I am happy.

We use Corelle. It's just the two of us, so washing a couple plates, some silverware and cups or glasses doesn't take much time at all.

Melamine is safe unless you hear it in the microwave.

This is the family we travel with. Love Corelle, very serviceable. Occasionally we use paper when breaking camp and heading for the road.

We use Ikea's version of Corelle. Light weight, inexpensive and tough. Just us two so washing a couple of plates and real utensils are not a problem. These are open stock so you can purchase only what you need, not a full set. We use our favorite mugs and a few plastic cups to complete our finery for the camper.

We like stoneware dishes. I know not the plastic dishes the OP asked about but I can't eat good food on a bad plate. And the stoneware has done well while traveling.I cut pieces of rubber shelf liner and put it between the plates and bowls. If a piece does get a chip, we can order from open Pfaltzgraf stock.
