We started out our camping life as tenters. The main reason we got a trailer when we did was so we would have our own bathroom and would not have to rely on the campground facilities which were usually, but not always, not the cleanest. We like to know that our toilet and shower are clean,it's just the way we are.

Our first 30 years was mostly in vans or pop up truck camper without an oven. Got a 5th wheel in 2000 with an oven. First time my wife used it, she badly burned the food, and never used it again. I used it a few times without problems. Got a new 5th wheel in 2010. Right now don't remember if we have ever used the oven or not. Wayne

Gotta go with Herk on that one. We've used ours for cooking once or twice in two seasons.

My cousin brought a "new to her" travel trailer about a year ago. Last week I helped her husband lite their oven for the first time. Learning to look for a tiny spec of flame can take some practice but he got the hang of it after several failed attempts. This was the first time the stove was used too. She does all the cooking in a crock pot or on a outside grill.

I don't think they will use the oven much as they tend to use the stove top for storage of buns, bread, chips, etc.

That can be a problem. On mine, I can hear it when it lights.

The missus says I have selective hearing.

Yes!

Nothing is better than hot cinnamon rolls from the oven at camp! What a way to start the morning. I would miss my oven (and my rolls!)

Frequently! Two of our favorite meals when we're away are Safeway's "Shepherd's Pie" (though it really should be Cottage Pie. Shepherds don't herd cows!) and their lasagne. We also bake rolls to go with other meals.

The original owner's wife said they chose this particular rig because one of the options was an oven. We wouldn't be without it.

With all I have read nobody has tried to cook a chicken in these ovens. Try it and you will never use an electric stove oven for chicken. Gas oven create humidity for your cooking and the tenderness cannot be beaten. If you have a gas stove in your home you know what I am talking!

That's true.

But me, if I'm going to roast a chicken, then its the old Beer Can Chicken.

I use the barbeque also for the chickens and it is delicious also. When we camp we cannot bring our big barbeque with us and in those portables it cannot beat the full size that we have at home. These small ones tend to burn and calcinate the chickens.

I'm with Scott!
You can't beat Beer can chicken, do it at my GF's on a regular basis even if it's raining.

Thanks to all about the lighting tips & using the pizza stone to even out the heat. I'll need to pic up another one for our new TT. Hope to use it a second time soon...

Going to use our's when we get out....first time having a TT with one. I just figured out how to light it the other day...can't wait to try baking some biscuits in it...the kind that comes in a bag. Noticed the Dutch Oven photos...I won one during our first camp out in the PUP we used to own. We made some delicious enchiladas in it...

The first time you fire it up expect some smells. Leave the hood running on high and let the oven run on high for a half hour or so to burn off the chemicals, or whatever it is.

I cranked it up the other day for about 15 minutes, no smell. It is several years old, 2009. When I went to the dealer and was looking at the trailer I noticed how clean the oven was, had not been used that much for a used one. I was amazed when I opened the oven door and looked in. We will use it when we can...just a few more weeks.

Something that hasn't been addressed...
Doesn't the oven make the interior hot in the summer ?
I know most people have AC, but can the AC keep up during the hot days with the oven on ?

We will probably only use ours when it is cool outside...don't eat that much when it gets hot. Instead of biscuits....switch to toast. I have been thinking about getting a small toaster anyway. We camped with out PUP a few years ago at Defeated Creek, near Carthage, TN. We really modified our cooking habits, lots was done outside. Good point on the getting warm inside...
