GMG Davey Crockett module issue

Camping with a friend. Turned on the GMG Davey Crockett. It came on just fine. It fired up ok.

I hit the 'up' button to raise temp to 225 or so.......without me touching it, it zoomed up to 550 (max). At that point, not one button would work. Buttons just did nothing. I finally had to unplug it.

I've been carrying it in the back of truck, not in basement of trailer. I can see the bottom left part of the bolt-on module is bent. That's all I've done so far.

Has anyone else had issues with the module? I see them on Ebay for $140 or elsewhere for $200. That's a LOT! That's a big percentage of the total cost I paid for it.

Not sure how easy it is to even replace. Not sure I can't pull it apart and fix it somehow.

If anyone else has had similar problems with the module, please let me know.

For those of us not familiar with what a GMG Davy Crockett is, could you enlighten us?

I’d try calling GMG and ask. I haven’t had to deal with them but from what I read before I bought my Davey Crockett and then the Daniel Boone for the S&B they are good and easy to deal with.

Ed, it is a pellet smoker that runs off 12 volt - all automated etc. since we got ours two seasons ago the Webber Q just sits in the garage.

It's the "portable" model of the Green Mountain Grill pellet smokers.

Well, I took it all apart.......moved the module out far enough to fiddle with it. Reseated the two connections.......bent the metal plate back to normal (it was only slightly bent; don't think that was the culprit)........and it works again.

So, no idea. But didn't want to spend a couple hundred on a new one, so I'll see how long it lasts.

Did you try and turn it back on to see if it did the same thing again?

I had an issue on mine where the buttons had rubbed up on something in the bed of my truck and they were sticking. I pulled the 2 screws out and pulled the board, straightened things up and haven't had any issues from it since. Might be worth a shot.

Yes, I did that. So far it's working again.

Now my issue is where to carry it. The bed of truck is about my only option. Everything else is packed to the gills.

I still carry mine in the bed of the truck, I'm just a little more careful about where I put it and what its up against
