Biggest problem is getting good ice. Ice cubes make coarser ice cream. Hard to get crushed ice anymore. Used lots of salt with the ice. Let sit for 15 to 30 minutes wrapped in towels after the motor shuts off. Yum, yum,
This is pretty much what we do.
We can change the recipe to about any type of liquid to change it up.
orange crush makes a good orange ice cream. Cheerwine, Tahitian treat, yoo-hoo makes a good frosty type ice cream. add any fruit to the above recipe and you have that. Strawberry, peach, pineapple, banana, maraschino cherries gosh this a good one.
Man makes me want some now.
We have a ice cream freezer 4 qt that stays in the camper and we have one of nicer wooden ones 6qt at home.
PS I have been making homemade ice cream since I could turn the handle. sit down there and turn(crank) that handle boy...I can hear my dad now..

You will need enough room in your freezer for the bowl on some units. May be a problem.

Do a Google search on "ice cream in a bag". Gives you the recipe and how to make it using two plastic bags one inside the other. It's easy, simple and ice cream is good. We have done this.

X2 on the Cusinart! We got ours this year at Sam's club on a close-out sale for $55.00 we have "tested" it at home and it is really a hands-free icecream maker. Does a great job!

I know some folks say "just go buy a 1/2 gal!" But, what I really like is being able to add fresh fruit/nuts/M&Ms/whatever to the ice cream mix. Yum!

I have the Kitchen Aid rendition of the Cuisinart shown. Works great, freeze the bowl. No fancy ingredients in the included recipe book.

We use the one 5er_tom put the picture. But you have to remember to put the freezer bowl from that machine in the freezer 24 hours before you can use it. That's the thing I always forget to do - it will take up a lot of space if you have the normal camper fridge. I only use it at home because the DH would not want that "HUGE MACHINE" taking up space in the RV. That problem always causes arguments - but never for BOY TOYS!!

Ice Cream

Boy are you people spoiled! When I was a kid (they had kids way back then) I cranked until it just wouldn't turn anymore, then dad would crank another 5. We used rock salt the same as you put on the walk in the winter. It was a lot of work when a pint was only 20 cents.

White Mountain hand crank is the only way to make it. Google Paula Deen ice cream receipe and use equal parts half & half and heavy whipping cream in place of the milk. It's the first thing we make on every trip, and only 7,000 calories per bowl...

Ice cream while camping is Great. We were camping last year in TN. and a real nice family was camping across the street and they made ice cream every evening and would bring us a bowl every night. IT is so great to meet nice people like that while camping.
