It's warming up, how 'bout Key Lime Pie NDJollymon?

It's simple realy, If your gonna listen to buffett you have to at least try key lime pie. All you gotta do is get yourself some ingredients and mix.

1 pie crust
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
4 egg yolks
3 oz fresh squeezed KEY lime juice
( you should be able to find them in the super market with the rest of the fruit)

Mix condensed milk and egg yolk together, the slowly add lime juice
After all the ingredients are mixed together, pour into pie shell and bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
let pie cool to room temp, then refrigerate overnight.
make note that true key lime pie is not green, it's yellow.
Serve plain or with whipped cream, enjoy.

So there's a difference between a key lime and an ordinary lime?

A decent lime will be very round with a smooth, thin skin and a sort of waxed appearence. A lime that is textured like a lemon and has bumps on the ends like a lemon will taste...well, like a lemon.

So I can't just use a decent lime? It must be a key lime?

Is this a typical recipe for Key lime pie in Florida?

Key limes are more tart and bitter than regular limes.
They are bright yellow in color when ripe, rather than green.

I've had Key Lime Pie...'down island' before. I first tried it down in Key West. I gotta say...I'm not a huge fan of it, but it was ok. (more of a chocolate guy) Very interesting, however!

Key limes are a lot smaller than regular limes or lemons. This is supposed to be the Original recipe. that was all the ingredients they had, no fresh milk, plenty of chickens running around Key West, and Key Limes. I guess it started with what was in a ships rations. I don't know if it's true, just what the locals say.

Hmmm? OK, well I guess I'll try to find some key limes. Wonder how many key limes it takes to get 3 oz. of juice??

Thanks.

About 12 if you use a lime squeezer, and they usualy come in bags of about two dozen or so. Funny enough the key limes I've been getting are from Mexico. I've found them at Wal mart, and regular grocery stores in bags, and I've found them in Mexican supermarkets loose with the rest of the fruit.
