While I love every aspect of my GMG Davy Crockett, I gotta say this. Whoever designed the handles/legs on that thing needs his thumbs broken. The are one of the most PITA designs I have ever seen and its virtually impossible to deploy them as legs single-handedly. I got a big grease stain on one of my favorite shirts on sunday by trying to fold up my DC by myself and wound up dragging the chimney across my shirt. ARRRGGGggguuhhh!

There has got to be a better way!

You're absolutely right Tim - I absolutely love the Davy but hate the legs so much I took them off permanently

I now use a portable grill table when on the road and a $99 Harbor Freight roll-away toolbox for home use.

As to cooking on the unit - I've done full packer briskets, and rib racks are available that allow you to do the 3-pack St. Louis ribs from Costco with ease. The fact that the pit is PID controlled is perfect, and I actually modified my Traeger Lil' Tex to use a Pellet Pro PID and it now cooks just like the Davy.

I really like the extra long power cords and that you can use it on car battery if needed so it is portable as a grill can get, yet offers the full function of a good PID controlled pit.

So, I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Funny thing is, directions say 2 person job, which is not what I call portable. But I love it and legs are gone.

Got a DC for Christmas. So far I have made the best tasting Brisket ever, and we did a 4 rib prime for Christmas dinner.

OK, me and Santa and my Walmart Savings Catcher got one of these.........the Rec Tec is awesome but heavier than I liked, and bigger.......had to go in back of truck. This thing fits in basement.

I have pork ribs in the Inaugural Smoking Event as we speak.

Two questions...........

1) If you so much as bump this thing, it goes OFF! Don't like that.

2) I am at a campsite, and I'm connected to WiFi via computer and phone, and I have downloaded the GMG App. But I can NOT make the unit connect. The directions under "Android Point to Point" (Which I take to mean no network is needed, the phone and smoker will talk........which I would think (?) would be Bluetooth ??) say to "Start the App and wait for the WiFi popup".

There is NO "WiFi Popup", no matter how long I wait. If I hit the Connect button at upper left of Home Page of App, it says "No unit detected".

No clue how to get the device to be seen on the phone app.

And as for the legs............WOW, they suck. Glad other agree. I need some kind of folding table........any ideas? Someone above said Harbor Freight but no details.

I have the Green Mountain Grill Davy Crockett. The grill is its own WiFi hotspot. On your phone go to the Settings and search for WiFi networks. Select the one that says something like GMGxxx. Select it. Then, back in the App, click on Connect. That should make your phone talk to the grill.

As to the turning off issue. My gut check says loose connection.

Wifi works if you are connecting the grill to a router. If it's just your phone, that is talking to the grill then it is not using wifi(server), you must setup using the SN on the label of the grill.

My experience:
My phone call to the support number for a dead 110v power issue after using it for a week, resulted in me getting a replacement 110v power supply within 3 days. During that time (when I needed it) I used the 12v connectors on my DW's battery. That works too. I am not ready to throw this under the bus as my use over a year now has been good.

Call the tech support. They go out of their way to diagnose and assist...

I called on a Sunday, left my phone number and got a call back withing two hours. YMMV.

I am not the end-all go-to guy for GMG answers (I may not have said the correct description of things here but that is just me). I like mine and the support I have been given.

You're right. Operator error! Sorry. I see the network now. Truth is, it's colder than the Devil's heart and I'm having to finish the ribs inside in the oven.........and I didn't want to go back outside to check for the password. I'll do it when it warms up, IF IT EVER DOES!

I'll check for loose connection......but I admit the 12v adapter is not my idea of a great way to connect 110v ac, but maybe it's not tight. I know I went to town and came back and it was off. I don't know why.

Other than that, this is a great concept, and looks like it will really fit the camping lifestyle. I need to find a table, and remove those goofy legs.

The fold up legs need a major re-think. They pretty much suck...

The grill puts out a Wifi signal so you have to diconnect whatever device you have the app from for example your home or site's WiFi - then connect to the grill's WiFi (I think the code is on the grill somewhere). If I recall, good luck it's a great grill.

We leave the legs attached to the grill. They are the handles for moving it. We use an outdoor “end table” at home and just set the grill on it. It works for me, but it could be a little bit higher. When camping last summer, we set it on the end of the picnic table and it worked great. You can also use it on the tailgate of your pickup.

I took the legs/handles off and use a $19 folding work table from Harbor Freight to set our Davy Crockett on. It works great and is the perfect height. The table is $22 now, and can be found here: https://www.harborfreight.com/foldin...egs-47844.html
