We like to use them. We have used bread with all kinds of fillings, have used prepared pie crusts to make chicken pot pies, and fruit pies. I got a hobo pie recipe book for Christmas, has some new ideas for us to try this year! I will be trying the pizza crust idea for sure.

We just purchased 3 pie irons from Cabelas and read thru the recipe ideas -- these things are very versitile. From breakfast thru smores before beadtime there are many cooking options with these pie irons.

See you around the campfire (with a fruity pie made by our pie iron)

Makes great Ruebens also. No limit to what you can cook in them, premake the ingredients for breakfast sandwiches and just heat them in the morning. Love the pie irons.....

I'm going to try my homemade pizza dough next time. I have been having them since longer than I care to remember. Great camping food. I've always known them as Pudgy Pies. When I was quite young we had something similar that were used to make burgers but they were not as nice as the ones now.

Get the cast iron ones. My opinion and experience is that the aluminum ones are not nearly as good to use.
