you make them with these, Pie Iron, Pudgy Pie, Sandwich Iron, Cast Iron Waffle Maker, Jaffle Iron, and Bratwurst Cooker ~ Fire Pie Trail Store ~ The Original Fire Pie Company two slices of bread with any kind of filling you'd like. Toasted cheese, fruit, jelly...

check this out
Welcome to Pie Iron.com - home of the original Rome sandwich cooker
we make them several times a year.
we use pie dough, pizza dough, crescent rolls and all kinds of fillings. we like to do them with a group and everyone shares ingredients and of course samples of what you make. one year we did cinnamon rolls.

The pie iron is a VERY old tool (c.1900?).....when I was a kid.. way back in the late 50's... my mother had one.... and I think she had it when she was a kid! (mine is round)
It now resides on my kitchen wall!
Someone is making new pie irons now... (sometimes called Sandwich iron, Pudgy, mountain, or Hobo iron) you can also use meat and cheese fillings. We used two slices of bread and filling.... closed the pie iron and it trims off the crust... the FIRST Pop Tarts!

I have seen what I think what you are talking about at gander mountain and I think my parents had this contraption that closes together
Gander Mountain does sell them for $14.99 each

The best is making pizza with the pie irons.
2 slices of bread
Contadina Pizza Squeeze (easy to store and reuse)
Hormel pre-sliced pepperoni (convenience)
Cheese
Feel free to experiment with any ingredients you might have.

Our favorites are pizza pies with all the fixin's (pepperoni, mushrooms, ham, and beef) and hot ham and cheese pies. We've been makin pies since I was a youngster. For us, pie irons and camping have always gone hand in hand. We are on our 3rd or 4th iron with the current one being a Lodge cast iron double iron. Now I cook double time! My father also has a cast iron hot dog cooker but in my opinion a good old stick works just as well.

I reccomend you buy the cast iron ones. We have hd both the aluminum and iron ones and the cast iron is much better. We use them quite often for making pizza, desert pies, hot dogs hamburgers, etc. in the mornings I even us one to toast a bagel.

We like to use them. We have used bread with all kinds of fillings, have used prepared pie crusts to make chicken pot pies, and fruit pies. I got a hobo pie recipe book for Christmas, has some new ideas for us to try this year! I will be trying the pizza crust idea for sure.

We just purchased 3 pie irons from Cabelas and read thru the recipe ideas -- these things are very versitile. From breakfast thru smores before beadtime there are many cooking options with these pie irons.
See you around the campfire (with a fruity pie made by our pie iron)

Makes great Ruebens also. No limit to what you can cook in them, premake the ingredients for breakfast sandwiches and just heat them in the morning. Love the pie irons.....

I'm going to try my homemade pizza dough next time. I have been having them since longer than I care to remember. Great camping food. I've always known them as Pudgy Pies. When I was quite young we had something similar that were used to make burgers but they were not as nice as the ones now.

Get the cast iron ones. My opinion and experience is that the aluminum ones are not nearly as good to use.
