Around here most campgrounds don't open until the May long weekend (that's the Victoria Day weekend for us, the week before the Memorial one). I've found one local campsite that opens beginning of May instead, so I'm hoping to hit them this year. Just have to wait till they open for booking to see if I can get in.

Where and when is your Icebreaker

Cg's around here are pretty much open all year but they don't turn water on till about April 15th unless trending temps are above freezing for lows.
The soonest I've ever seen the water on is ST Patrick's day weekend.
Hopefully this year it's sooner
We're actually hoping in the next two weeks "water or not"!
Btw half price camping if the water is off!
$8.00 a night!

Gc are " closed" from thanksgiving to May long here.

By closed, I mean no water or power.
You can still camp, for free as long as there's not so much snow, that you can't get in

Our icebreaker was the weekend of Feb. 14. We went to Starkville, MS to see my DD. Didn't de-winterize yet as the temps that weekend were below freezing at night. Planning to take it out again in two weeks. We only parked the trailer for 3 months this winter. I enjoy camping in cold weather, when you need to get close to the campfire to stay warm.

Mystic was a bust!

I reserved a 50 amp pull thru site with water and sewer at the Mystic, CT KOA. Spent 2 days load in the camper back up and packing. After driving an hour to get there, I walk in the office to check in and the girl informed me that I site I reserved doesn't have water. I tell her what I reserved and her response was "oh well that part of the campground doesn't have the water turned in yet." Then she said only a small part of the park had water and those sites weren't big enough for our 42 foot fifth wheel. The rest of the park would have water turned on 3/15. How in the world was I supposed to know that?!? There was nothing on their site saying their water wasn't on and they are advertised as a year round CG. If we had known we could have brought water with us! I was so upset! So we got a full refund and left. Then we got on I-95 and I started making calls. I found another CG that is open all year and guess what....their water is on. Fortunately it was only about 30 minutes down the road. So our ice breaker is going down right now at Aces High in East Lyme, CT. The lady told me we could go in and pick whatever site we wanted. No problems. Woohoo! Only a very small playground for the kids. But today we are headed to the aquarium, so that will be fun. Hubby says that is what I get for camping in CT in March! LOL BTW it was 75 here on Wedesnesday. In the 50's today.

Spent New Year weekend at Dillon Beach, a little cold at night but beautiful days, rained during the night on my last night. Looking forward to a few days at Moss Landing KOA ( between Monterey and Santa Cruz) in a couple of weeks. Weather in N. Calif. really lets me go year round. With my new Forester, even staying inside for some rain is a joy.
Can't retire yet but able to pretend for short bursts.

Sorry to hear Carolina. We like this cg for our icebreaker (would go this year but DW is planning a trip to Old England from New England for the DD's Spring Break). KOA's have a pretty good standard. The sites in the field which I'm sure they pointed you too will fit big rigs. They do suck since they pack you in like sardines. They are very flat and even have hookups for grey water (so you can book just a w/e site). When the weather gets nicer they have some pretty good activities and entertainment. We will probably book our icebreaker for Kamp Kare weekend (Mom's day).

Near to Mystic

Sites are narrow. Have to retract the awning in most sites to light a fire.
I95 is a snowballs throw away (very noisy)
Not cheap

I have a site booked at Destin West RV Resort for 4/29 to 5/2. This will be the maiden voyage of the Wildwood for us.
However, I do have it set up in the back yard with 50 amp power and water now. It's going to be a guest house for family at Easter.

Ice Breaker '16

Just got our '16 ice breaker in at the beautiful Evergreen RV Park in Mt Eaton, OH, in the middle of Ohio's Amish country....great food, weather, fellowship & helped two rookie families, both out on their very first ever camp in brand new rigs...what a good time...

Most campgrounds in Maine open on May 15, with some opening May 1. A few remain open year-round, however water is not available at the sites for those.

Yesterday saw up to 4 inches of snow in southern Maine with none in my area...pretty unusual. The rest of the week is sunny with seasonal daytime temps but pretty cool nights, dropping below freezing.

After this mild winter and having just brought the TT out of storage, I am beyond ready to get a weekend of camping in. First scheduled trip is Memorial Day weekend, but I don't see myself waiting that long. It's time to go camping!
