Who has a Coleman Coffeemaker?

Hey y'all,

We have had this Coleman coffeemaker for years. I don't know that we really ever used it....now we have this great little trailer (Graywolf 19RR) and want a BIGGER coffee maker.

So question is... has anyone used their Coleman coffeemaker on the rv's stove?
How well did it work?
Did you remove the stove burner grills?

Just wondering...will let you know how well it works this weekend.

We have used ours for years, it's alot slower then a Mr. Coffee, but it works. We did replace the glass pot with a metal one.

we don't camp with hookups, so i use the Coleman almost all the time.
it takes up space on the stove, so that you don't have a lot of room for cooking other things.
but, it tastes as good a perc coffee from home.

but, since there's just the two of us most of the time, the DW(non-coffee drinker)has asked me to try a french press. she wants more room on the stove to cook.
we'll use the Coleman when we're camping with friends and family.

My only issue is that it is hard to find coarser ground coffee these days, it's so fine (for drip coffee makers) that it always leave grounds when I use a percolator, I hate to see them at the bottom of my cup.

It is slow, but I start it when I first get up and by the time I am done in the bath room it is finished, so big deal. Use paper filters and the coffee is as good as home. We carry a carafe also and the coffee goes in there as soon as it is done. Then the maker gets put away until it is needed the next time.

FRENCH PRESS COFFEE MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Just make sure you have a consistant course grind or you will have alot of sludge on the bottom ( you always have some )

Its a pain but your local grocery store may have whole bean coffee and a coffee grinder that is adjustable to the type of grind you want, or you can buy a coffee grinder and do it yourself.

Right you are, I've done that and it worked OK.

I guess if the paper filter had more of funnel shape than just a disc it would work better, ah well.

I guess I'm a lazy bugger.

We have a Coleman Drip Coffee maker just like your drip coffee maker at home. Works on top of a propane stove, uses regular automatic drip coffee and filters. Takes about 15 min to brew a pot of coffee but we love it.

Well, that's new to me. 40 years of camping and I have never seen one of those (I had to Google it).

I'm putting it on the list. We have these great plastic 2-cup frenchpreses from REI but my wife doesn't really like the flavor a french press imparts. So, two years ago I bought a peculator (blue enamel) that she does like when I remember the correct time to peculate. But, she doesn't like when I get it wrong.

So, I think this Coleman will do it for us.

i've had mine for at least 10 years, so they've been around for quite a while.

I usually use the genny and my braun electric drip in the RV any more, but I still do a lof of tent camping, hunting, fishing, and the percolator always gets used on those trips. I have a 20 cup model for Scout trips when there are more people around. I like it better than the french press. I usually grind the coffee coarser at the grocery store as suggested above.

One of the very first things we got when we bought our rig. I wanted something like the Bunn coffee maker without actually having to spend the money for it and this was a great substitute. I've used it inside on the stove and on the Coleman stove outside. It may take a while longer than some, but it makes an excellent pot of coffee. I grind my own whole beans - just can't drink the ground stuff that comes in cans anymore. I don't think you would regret having one.

When tent camping that is all we used. Loved it. It was always slower but then I started to use hot water(have the coleman instant hot water) and it didn't take any time at all to have my first cup of coffee. You do need a carafe to keep the coffee warm.

my wife and I hated waiting for coffee to percolate plus the coffee is so dam hot its almost impossible to drink right away...so we tried a french press. Holy cow not only is the coffee that much better it is faster. you only have to have the water to a small boil and pour in the press. let it sit for about four minutes then press away. I like it because I can make mine strong and the wife can make hers the way she likes it.
