Im going to try the clay flower pot saucer? from Lowes and see how it holds up.

I've been wanting to try this in my charcoal grill as well, for indirect smoking over the coals.

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful comments. Even though I've already put my camper to bed for the winter I went ahead and ordered a 13" round pizza stone made by Old Stone Oven. I had originally planned on using one that would have filled up the shelf above the burner but thanks to some of the comments I received I decided to go with the smaller stone for safety sake. We will get to try it out by this coming March and hopefully this will improve the outcome of the wife's baked items. Thanks again and we hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Just wrap it in a towel.

See the attached for the work I completed with a stone:

Oven Stone experiment

we used it several times last year out camping and it worked great - several thousand miles on the rig without any breakage of the stone.

Same here.
