2007 Coachmen Freelander FL2230RK Motorhome 24' Long

This motorhome is only 24' 6" long! These short ones are hard to find. During the entire last year we averaged 9.6 MPG. We have never towed a vehicle with this rig since we owned it (7,800 miles on odometer when we bought it) although it does have a heavy duty hitch receiver.

This is powered by the Chevy 6.0L gasoline engine which currently has less than 43,000 trouble free miles on it. It also has the Onan MicroQuiet 4Kw generator with around 300 hours on it. The generator start easily and can run the 13,000BTU air conditioner with power left over for everything else in the rig. The tires are two years old and are in great shape.

Kitchen is a good size for such a small coach. It has everything you need, stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, and a great fridge freezer. The shower/tub is a nice size too and the bathroom has a large linen cabinet. A double door wardrobe in the main area provides storage for your clothes. It has a great LP gas water heater and furnace.

Lots of improvements:
We added cup storage with a bracket that hold the toaster oven in place. We also added shelves for spices and snack containers. These free up a lot of cupboard space while creating convenient access to the items. Custom curtains were added along with cup holders. The fridge and the water heater have LED temperature displays so you can tell at a glance that every thing is working properly. There is a safe under the passenger seat to keep your valuables secure. The cushions on the dinette seats were upgraded to denser foam, because the original ones were so soft you could feel the wood underneath. We installed the heating element option in the roof AC unit and also added an internal thermostat so the temperature will stay at 70 degrees when it's cold outside. Best of all there is a 285W solar panel on the roof which keeps a pair of 6V (230AH) golf cart batteries fully charged without having to run the generator morning and evening. The TV runs on 12VDC so there is no need to run the generator when watching TV. There is a blue ray DVD player connected to the TV, but you'll need AC power to run it.

We also added a ladder to the rear of the rig and changed the keying for the outdoor storage compartments because the original keys were not secure - every RV uses the same keys! A special tube was installed to hold a collapsable sewer hose and keep it out of the way. Another great upgrade was the installation of a backup camera. The monitor looks like a rear view mirror and comes on when you put the vehicle in reverse. If you want, you could also add side view cameras that operate with the turn signals, just mount the cameras an run the cables back to the dash and plug them in!

This has been a great unit but we want to buy a larger motorhome and now we have to say goodbye to our faithful friend.
