another option for the poles are gray pvc conduit, ... they have a "lifetime" color, easy to make, 1" into 1 1/4" is a good fit, and IMO they have a nice look, ............

each foot is two squares of 1/2" plywood, ... the top one, I drilled thru w/hole saw, then attached the two pieces together with screws and painted, ... creates a blind hole, ... I did it that way because I didn't want the 1/4" center hole that the hole saw would leave thru the bottom piece and allow ants to enter the poles undetected, ....

the top bracket is OC's bracket(they are actually the primary piece to all the leg ideas that I know of, and very well made), ... I did have to spread the brackets open just a little to fit the 1" pvc, .... using a large c clamp, I forced a socket down between the arms(they flared out a little), then I used a second c clamp to bring them back in square, ... it doesn't take much, but was necessary to fit that size pipe(and right now, I can't remember what size socket, I think it was trial and error to get it right), ...

I think the hooks on the new straps I bought this fall are too large to fit in the brackets,,, so I will probably need to use S hooks ???

orange bag? ... you must mean the brown pipe insulation(w/orange tape), covering the bracket that holds the post to the awning arm when traveling, ... didn't take but one time hitting my bald head on that bracket, to know that thing needed to be wrapped in something soft, ... the orange tape is to make it noticeable, the bungee cord holds it in place, ...
