That is the way most normal folks do it, but you know some Iowegians mount them upside down with the small inner pole down with no ground pad.

Awning hold down poles.
Picked up two more sets of black poles tonight at the powder coater.
Will try to get them shipped off Saturday !
Working on four sets of aluminum poles now, two get powder coated and 2 get sent plain.
Ordered more aluminum today, it'll probably be two weeks till I get shipment.

FWIW, I also think that is upside down. I'm just thinking of the legs on a pop-up canopy for example. It has the foot pad attached to the smaller pole.
Or even the stab jacks on a fiver. The smaller part is on the bottom with the foot pad attached.
Just saying...

I like the powder coated aluminum poles! That is cool and meets the need for many.
Now we need EF Testing on how well the system of deflapper, awning poles, dog screws and rachet straps stands up.
Would be interesting to see the frame and roller but no awning fabric!!
