The strongest point of "NO Load" on the awning Tube is a Cradle directly under the TUBE at the End of the Tube! The Brackets are mounted "Outboard" of the Tube on the Linkage between the RV and the Axle attachment point of the Roller Tube! I had "Awning Supports" long before the "Self Storing" brackets that OC used to make,I bought OC Brackets for the "Self Storing" feature they added No additional Strength or Support than my original supports, just "Self Storing"! There are still MANY owners of "Electric Awning" that just Tie a Rope/Strap around the Tube End and "Think" they are "Good to Go" and NO UP support at all and ALL the Pressure on the "FLIMSY Alum Rail Tilt Arms "see it all the Time! Youroo!!

I don't have a dog in this "discussion" either(other than I was an OC customer) and I think the brackets are a simple/useful design. Can you do it without OC's brackets? Yes. Fasten your poles to the awning arms using eye-bolts or anything you can attach with. Either mounted or removable and you have it. OC's brackets make it simple and clean.
IMO(in my opinion)

I'm like Iwannacamp... you guys can argue all you want about about stress on the motor/awning tube.
Here is the REAL reason you should use the OC/Turbs brackets...
Should you need to retract the awning in a hurry... with your strap and pole attached to the bracket... all you need to do is release and unhook the strap at the lower tie down and retract the awning. (I can do both in about 10 seconds as I don't use ratchet straps, I use H/D cam buckle straps)
You don't need to unhook the top of the strap, (remember, it's attached to the bracket) the strap won't try to wind up with the roller, (because you had it wrapped around there) the pole will simply lift up with the awning as it closes and lay against the awning arms and it won't fall loosely to scratch the side of the camper or bop you in the head and no worries about a screw going into the roller channel or support u-clamp that needs to come out/off before the awning can retract.
Have fun!

Who said ratcheting DOWN? No need to ratchet down. No need to even put pressure on it. It just a safety strap. If the wind is going to pick my poles off the ground it is time to roll it in period. Please Tell me what do the other 1.5 mil people do with there awnings. Been camping a long time without any. As I stated I think they are a good idea that Turbs and OC developed. But really not a necessity....That is my point only, and no pics that you requested any camper will know what i'm talking about. Different strokes for different people....You have a blessed day...
PS: I hope we can agree to disagree. Plus my reply was to Russ on where to find brackets cheaper that he wants to use and make his own poles, I have no DOG in this fight...

I agree. Very easy to pull the pins, pull down on the strap, unclip the tie-down strap from the top bracket on each side and hit the remote roll up button on your FOB. (You did install Turbs "coolest awning mod ever"? right?). Pin the legs back up to the arms at your leisure.

When the storm passes, just roll out the awning and pull down each side to clip on the pre-measured straps. Lift up and re-pin the legs; done.

. do you really expect a person on this forum to buy the metal have it cut by laser and try to form it without a die and press... :roflblac k: Now I Have heard it all, just buy them at West Marine... Sid Brown has bought bottom clamps there that you don't even need to pin as what was designed. I think people are starting to get carried away here...Still a good product but there are other avenues, ....

With all due respect, I hope you don't do any engineering work for anyone.

Thank you. When I saw the original link was bad I looked for a replacement and picked the wrong type. Thank you for correcting that.

I saw a post stating that drawings for the brackets are available, but I haven't been able to find them (found them for the poles, but not the brackets). Can someone please provide me a copy of the brackets drawing or point me in the right direction......Thanks...Dr JAG
