In 68 pages of posts I forget who first came up with the painters poles, but KUDOS! They hardly weigh a thing. Except where I was at they had small, medium, large, and you GOT to me kidding me
The $33 price quote helped to confirm the size I thought would work best. Thanks for that as well.
I'm not sure if I completely trust the little thumb spring, but worst case you can always drill through and insert a quick release clip, yeah.
The only thing I couldn't find were the foot plates, so I didn't pick up any quick release pins for those, but I did find some rubber slip on covers for the lower brackets. Just thought they might cut down on the lateral wear and tear while out on the road. Then again, I have no experience traveling with them in the "stowed" position so that might turn out to be a bogus idea.
Any help on where to locate the facsimile foot plates? Lightweight and small would be my preference, but the heavier looking plates with the 4 stake holes I would be happy with as well until I make it back home and can fabricate my own if need be. I'm waiting on just one more mail item to add to my "mod box" before I hit the road, so I won't have the time until I meander back around.
I do kind of prefer having the diagonal tie downs for the 3 point stability.
Thanks as well to Thurb for the quick tips. Much appreciated!

I described the feet I used back on page 65:
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...tml#post686400
Though that was for the PVC Conduit approach, not the the painter poles approach, so it might not work.

Thanks Kaadk!! Those are 1 1/4 and should work if I remove the rubber "handle" fixture (?). I intended to anyway, but I've been trying to keep my options open. That's more of what I had in mind.
I'm assuming that was an online purchase? I've made note of the mfg and item number.
I may just toss a "lego block" under the ground mounts and figger out something long term later though. I'm getting a bit antsy and I'm already past a couple of "last expected mail" dates.
~Cheers

Nope, Home Depot. Right by the other joints, elbows and adapters for the PVC conduit.

I think we're gonna go with the next size up....14' instead of 6'.
Sometimes (as in the pic I posted) we have to angle out a ways to get past the concrete pad and 6' won't be enough.

IIRC someone *did* do a lego block foot. They glued a piece of PVC to the lego block and the poles set into that.

Yarome,
They truly ARE the best mod you can make, IMO.
We got two of the last sets of poles OC made and sold, but I'm sure the following will be true even with your own poles:
I was hanging awning lights, standing on a short step/ladder stool. I lost my balance and would have fallen if not for the fact that I grabbed on to a pole. Pole didn't budge...saved me from a fall.
Once you put those straps and earth anchors on, those awnings are SOLID!

Dang I must be going blind. That's actually where I went.. Home Depot, and must have walked past them at least twice. I'll try again in the morning. I would really like to have all the necessary pieces before I head out.
Thanks for your patience Kaadk. The info is much appreciated.

I can imagine. It just only makes too much sense I'm surprised it's not a standard feature.

(chuckle) The beauty of the whole set up, IMO, is the self storing feature.
I've had people approach us at truck stops and ask if ours were "an upgrade from the manufacturer" (OC really *does* do 1st class work) or if they were standard equipment for our brand from the factory.
Yep, they look factory once mounted, and in the self storing position.

HD didn't have them, but found them at Lowe's. I'm good to go!
On another note... is there any contact info I can pass along to folks that might ask where I got them or is it limited to FROG's?

I usually pass this along:
Forest River Forums - Forest River Owners Community
Remember, it might be called FRF, but that doesn't mean we don't welcome non-FR.

Just use 2 of the 6'ers. According to the reviews on the longer ones, they don't retract very good and have to be hand rolled the last 5'.

Couldn't they also use the 14', but then cut off the last 5' or 6' to get an 8' or 9' one that will reach farther than a 6', but be short enough to retract?

Don't know, I just read the reviews on the 10'ers that they wouldn't retract the last 5'.
