D ring is too close to the ground. Dog anchor handles are about 3"-4" above the screws. Sometimes I even screw them down to the handles. Really don't see an advantage to them.

Fair enough.

I do see an advantage though, several actually.

1. Often the ground here in the mountains is rocky and hard.
When trying to screw in the dog anchors, because the handle of the dog anchor isn't welded where it comes back and meets the shaft of the anchor, they often open up and bend apart. I've had to weld mine. These would not do that.

2. When leaving the campsite for the day (or more) we often retract the awning (even with poles) just for safety's sake but do not remove the anchors so we can re-anchor with little effort/time upon return. The dog anchor handles are a tripping hazards for the grand-kids when they all pile out of the TV and scramble like Indians. These would fold flat to the ground.

Yes more pricey, but what's a 4 year old's broken arm worth?

OC has posted a pic somewhere on here.....it's pour'n out now or I'd post a pic They mount to the side od the awning arm, not in front.....stay on all the time, and allow one to use the de-flappers that the manual awnings use...simple to set up

The video on the Home Depot site shows using a piece of rebar thru the ring to screw it into the ground.
I have used the dog anchors to tie out our dog and they bend pretty easy if you can't get them deep enough in the ground. Maybe there are better quality dog anchors.

Those were the first 1 piece one... I saw 'em and thought they could be done like OC's poles....so I made a telescopic version and used some of the awning hardware that was already used for the awning pivot at the top.......then made a stud for the movable part of pole to stow onto while travel'n

32...I think so...I put 'em to the test last summer in a S. Dakota 40 or so breeze...worked great... as an added trial, I lowered one end of awning on it's slide thing and that also helps...

I used Bob's idea and had TURBS powder coat a set of emt tubes that I added Velcro to the inside of the outer poles and to the outside of the inner pole to keep them from rubbing against each other and scratching/scrapping the powder coat off. I replaced a stainless hook at the top of the awning support on the trailer with a stainless steel bolt and attached the outer pole to that bolt and the inner pole to another ss bolt on the end of the awning arm that I use with a wing nut to secure the end sunscreens we use, now I can attach the sunscreen and the de-flapper poles on at the same time using the same bolts. To stow, I just remove the wing nut, remove the pole from the bolt and telescope it to fit on the hitch pin attached to the bottom of the support on the trailer. Works great and you don't really notice them in the stowed position.

To clarify what I actually did a little, I bought 2 ss U bolts from Lowes that have extra threads and cut them in 2 to get 2 long ss bolts with hooks. The extra threads/length allow the addition of the de-flapper poles and still provide a hook for the end sunshade. The 1 U bolt I used on the roller end was cut in a manner to just use the straight portion to have room for the inner de-flapper pole and the sunscreen if used. Now I have 2 places to attach the sunscreen at the awning roller end instead of the one holding the vertical pole itself.

The Claw is a different device to attach the awning straps to that anchor into ground...some light aircraft use 'em
