You forgot OC doesn't paint and it could be a while before he is near another FR member to do it for him. That allows plenty of time for rust to develop.

Old Coot told me to put a cap on the bottom to act as the feet, but they were out of stock. Instead, I found these meter hub connections that I thought would act like a great foot for the poles.

Even with the foot turned in towards the trailer the foot still has clearance.

Thanks OC, I appreciate your guidance and I can't wait to try them out at a campsite.

I picked up my electrical conduit today to make my poles and I can't find the carlon PVC hubs anywhere. Apparently since they aren't allowed by code in my area no one carries them. I think it's a great idea to use them. They look perfect. What else are you all using for feet on the PVC poles??

Same here. I can find metal hubs but those won't fit on the PVC. It looks like the only places online that have them are in Canada. HomeDepot's Canadian site has them but not the US site. Rats! They'd be perfect and the holes would be perfect for a tent stake.

I checked with a large electrical supplier in town and they can't even get the 1-1/4 PVC Hubs that Kaadk used. I guess that is only going to be an option for the Canadians' to use. I guess I'll just put a cap on unless anyone has any better thoughts. With that being said, I got my brackets in the mail the other day (Thank You OldCoot). I've got a friend who is going to powdercoat them white for me. I got my PVC conduit all cut to length and all of the holes drilled so I should be close to ready here before too long.

Hmmm... I really want to get a hold of these. I think they are the perfect foot (feet?) for the poles. We just have to find an illegal "hub runner" to sneak them across the border.

The only other thing I can think of is to glue a threaded adapter to the pole and then screw on a metal hub. Just not sure how that will look.

I found this on web. Haven't had time to call and don't have a way to receive and mail out the extras. But if someone did I would be greatly interested in two of them.
Sorry I don't know how to make a link to go to the site.

Question
Would there be enough interest by those within driving distance of the Charlotte/Concord area to pick up aluminum awning poles if I were to get more material in FL this winter. I WILL NOT SHIP THE POLES. Let me know so I will have some idea whether to bother getting the material.

Hey OldCoot,
Why don't you chime in here. What is your OPINION on putting some type of feet or caps with holes drilled in them on the bottom of these poles? Do you think it is necessary or not?

PM me what your selling them for. I really haven't had a need for them.... yet, but I'm seeing them as a good thing to have IF needed.
I have a brother-in-law near you. I think he is flying up for a football game in November, but if you don't have them until spring, I can get him to ship them to me (he owes me)

Old Coot's Awning Kit Review
Well after some trial and error we finally figured out how to install the kit we ordered from Old Coot. And I must say we LOVE it! We are not all that savvy when it comes to engineering but with two brains put together we figured it out. After talking to someone who also had them installed the directions made complete sense. Felt a little silly afterwards. They are up, painted and looking great. Thought I'd share some photos. And the second photo is what we used for the feet of the poles. The wider end of the conduit fit perfectly into the size we chose. We used 1in poles on the bottom and the wider end of the poles fit into the 1 1/4in feet we got just like Cinderella.

Quick idea for those of you using pvc poles.
I had several of these chair pads left over from a project. They are labeled as 1 1/8" but they fit perfectly in my 1 1/4" pvc lower legs. Not a big footprint, but better than nothing!
Ps. Got em at lowes, I think about $2-3 a pack if I remermber right.

Well, I guess these are available in the US. Must be a regional thing. Dang....I just bought and glued on 2 regular caps.

Should either type be primed before painting, or just rough up with a Scotch Brite pad then paint?

I have had good luck with Krylon Fusion Paint for plastic.
