Received my set of brackets from OC on Saturday and yesterday I got to the job of painting the brackets and building my poles. I used the 1" and 1-1/4" PVC conduit. Instead of heating and squeezing the 1", I used a 1" female pipe adapter with a 1" to 3/4" RE, then cut a 3/4" X 6" galv. nipple in half, in which I drilled the hole for attaching to the bracket. I put a 1-1/4" cap with a 1/4" drain hole on the bottom of the lower pipe. If I set up in soft soil I built the pictured bases from 5/4 treated.

I'm using 1" schedule 40 PVC for my awning poles. I found that if you get a 1 3/8" end cap for the top rail of a chain link fence, it will just fit the PVC. Hold it on with a couple of self-tapping screws and it will work perfectly with OC's upper brackets. For the bottom half of the pole, the 1: schedule 40 slips right down inside a 1 3/8 piece of PVC. You can drill a series of holes in the PVC to "pin" the two pieces at various heights, or extend the pole just as tall as you need it, and tighten a hose clamp around the inner piece, preventing it from sliding back down into the outer piece.

Mine aren't self storing" on the awning arms while travelling...I just toss them in the bed of my pickup.

Last set just went to the mailbox for pickup tomorrow. Haven't heard from Butler Built as to when the next batch will be ready for pickup. Hopefully sometime next week, then it will take 3 or 4 days to process. Thanks everyone and I sincerely hope the kits work satisfactory for everyone.

Just got the call from Butler Built to come pickup the plasma cut blanks. If I get off my lazy rear, should have some ready to ship by Fri or Sat at the latest.

Wish I had known that you were making poles again, you could have shipped them with that last set of brackets that I had ordered....

Not making poles and IF I do pick up pole material in FL this winter, I will DEFINITELY NOT SHIP THEM. Whomever would want a set will have to make arrangements to pick them up at the garage or have someone pick them up. As stated before, I will not go thru that hassle again.

Picked up the sheet of cutouts, now the work begins. 1st step is to air sand both sides to remove slag and blow thru. 2nd step is to break them all out. 3rd step is to grind all breakoffs off. 4th step is to drill the 468 holes. 5th step is to chamfer the 936 holes. 6th step is form the 104 pcs. 7th step is to bead blast the 104 pcs. 8th step is to stamp D&D on the 104 pcs. 9th step is to bag all the hardware and pcs into 26 bags. Might get it done by Fri.

These look awesome, I have gotten my painted but haven't had a chance to install them yet. I also still need to make poles.

I am considering waiting until people peer pressure Old Coot into shipping poles again

OC, you need to find a shop to water jet those instead of plasma cut; wouldn't need all that grinding and clean up. Also could drill holes then have brackets shot blasted or glass bead blasted, saves all that grinding.

Very much aware of all the possibilities that are available, BUT, I am retired and not in business. This is something I like to do to help other folks in some small way to save their power awnings. I don't want to go into business, I spent 45 yrs in the design/production arena and enjoy doing what I want, when I want as long as TOWTA says I can.

Thanks for the suggestions, I do appreciate them.

You start making more poles, I am sure a lot of people would stop by and take them off your hands. (Next time you come to Misery you can bring me a set...)

TOWTA and I decided after our last trip for her reunion last month, that it was probably the last one. Now, if y'all come to NC or maybe FL in the winter, we might just fix ya up.

When he does that, can he drop off my poles too?
