i have heard you can spend 8 to 10 grand on bullet proofing them . new heads and bolts , egr and cooler , fuel/water separators and filters etc .

My mistake, DPF. I have read that the 6.4L would be awesome if the DPF was deleted.

It depends on what you are using them for. There are many trucks on the road with high mileage and the TTY head bolts. There are also trucks with tuners that have head gasket issues.

The 6.0L is the best value in a diesel, they are easy to work on and the u"nreliable" rumors keep the prices down.

IMO the best thing Ford did was to put a six speed behind the 6.7 the increased mileage over the 5 speed behind the 6.4 is huge.

I have wondered what the 6.4 could do with an extra gear.

I turned down a ford 2006 350 dw 6.0 with only 30,000 miles on it a year and a half ago because all i could find about them was bad . and he was only asking 14,500. for it . gotta wonder why the price was so low and why the mileage was so low . maybe because it was in the shop more then on the road

Hi,
OP here.

I agree the early (late 2003, early 2004) 6.0 engines did have issues and did cause a lawsuit.

I was extremely careful when I bought mine (had a full maintenance record from the dealer and was basically in new condition). I am meticulous in maintenance and never experienced any trouble.

I personally know three others with 6.0s, one that has three of them for his business. Out of that group, zero has had a failure with the engine.

Let's not make this a 6.0 bash. Majority of the negative opinions about it are coming from people that were clueless and really don't know a damn thing about them. Maintenance is key, run 5w40 synthetic and change it every 5,000 miles along with the updated items and you'll have a reliable truck. I'm about to roll 170,000mi on stock heads and bolts and I tow heavy with a MILD tune.

You want to talk costly wait until warranty is up on those 6.7s and the fuel pump pollutes the fuel system. Hope you have 12 grand set aside. And the 6.4's are usually wore out so bad @ 100,000mi. that when they grenade they are not even servicable.
Buy a 6.0, put maybe 1000 or worse case scenario 5 into it and you have a truck that can go 500,000mi.

Point is they all have issues includes the almighty Cummins with blown head gaskets. You can only squeeze so much juice from an orange and with emission standards and the HP & TQ war among the top 3 these trucks are running on edge. It's all how far you push them. Yeah no kidding. He'd have much better time on Ford-trucks.com or local Craigslist and hope to get someone that's educated and enthused about owning a 6.0

Yeah, I would have never guessed putting up a classified would quickly turn into a multipage postfest.

I do have it on Craigslist, Cars.com, IRV2, and was just looking to get some more exposure.
