Sorry I didn't see your post sooner. I know you're not making the kits anymore but did you say that you would make the brackets to attach the poles? I am new to the forum as I just purchased a new Rockwood 8312ss. I used to have a couple of Jayco's but I definitely like the Rockwoods better, except for the power awning. If you're done with manufacturing all together I completely understand.

Was looking forward to receiving the last set sold today but will not receive it until tomorrow. Im bummed but will let you know how the install goes this weekend.

Thanks! Yes I am going to paint mine. It is suppose to rain on Saturday so that would be nice inside job to take care of, but install is a ways off probably a month or so. But they will be one by our first camping trip in 5 weeks. No Goshen for us, we have reservations at a couple of lakes up north those weekends. It would be great to go and meet up other from here, be able to put a face with a name.

Morning OC! I have a question for ya. I am planning on painting my tubes and brackets, but how do you suggest I prep them?

I was thinking of just scuffing them up with 200 or 220 grit sand paper, wiping them down, then prime and paint. But then I had a friend tell me to skip the scuffing up step, get an an aluminium primer and then paint them. Finally last night I showed my cousin (who is a machinist and thinking about making a kit for his camper) he said to use a green Scotch bright pad with muriatic acid (no big deal since I have some in the garage), wash it off, let it dry for 24 hrs then prime and paint.

So what have you found to be the best way to prep and paint?

The one set I painted, I wet sanded with 200 grit, wiped down with thinner and painted. I think your cousin has the right idea. I personally like them polished, but it is a lot of work and a little dirty using a buffing wheel and polishing compound sticks. The polished ones will look nice with any color scheme and it's easy to remove any scratches.

I found out that muriatic acid will eat thru scotch bright pads, lean something new everyday! So I ended up using red scotch bright with water, rinsing it off, then used what was left of the 1 green pad I had in the garage with water and rinsed with water. They are now drying, tomorrow I am going to wipe them down with thinner, then hang them up to prime and paint.

UPS finally dropped off the last set sold!!! yea me!
Have no idea what they were doing with my poles but originally to be delivered on the 4th got them today the 8th.
They Look GREAT, very solid.
Now the work clean, paint and install.

They are kinda getting like USPS, but they don't charge extra for storage.

Glad you finally got them and hope you are happy with them. Suggest installing before painting to prevent possible scratching. They are easy to remove, just drill the pop rivet holes for the stow brackets and the stow hole in the tubes and then remove everything and clean & paint.

1" sch 40 electrical conduit and 1-1/4" sch 40 electrical conduit that would be good material for poles. Would have to paint them, but should be plenty strong.

If someone wants to be the guinea pig with a set of poles made with the electrical conduit, I'll make a set for $75 + $10 shipping tube + UPS. PM me.

Picked up the electrical pvc conduit yesterday after getting new Marathons mounted and making a set of tie down poles. I think they will work great, lighter in wt, but pretty stiff due to the size. Should take paint real good. Anyone want to be the first to buy? $75 + $10 shipping tube + UPS. Ship tomorrow.

Why would you sell it within a month? I'd take the poles off the trailer to put on a new one and paint the pvc ones and put them on the month old trailer. Don't know about the stow brackets yet. They have to be wider than the old ones.
