Weight Distribution Hitch - $250 (Sartell, MN)

Putnam brand weight distribution hitch. This hitch has a rating of 8000 lbs towing capacity and 800 lbs tongue weight capacity. I have used this hitch to tow my 28 foot travel trailer for the last 3 years. It has worked very good for me. I am at the upper limits of the capacity for this unit and decided to upgrade to a heavier hitch.

Included with the hitch is:
2- Snap up Brackets
1- Handle
1- 2 5/16" Ball (already attached to ball mount)
2- Trunnion style 800 lbs bars
1- Shank that fits a 2" by 2" opening

I have the exact set-up as you except I have 2007 vs 2005.

I went to a local RV dealer and wanted to buy The Equilizer from him as he is a dealer for them. He told me I should be fine just pulling it with regular ball and hitch. I had informed him that my longest pulling trip was probably 60 miles this year. Now plans have changed and we are planning a 200 mile trip and I think it would be safest to have weight and sway protection.

Do you think if I bought your hitch I would be fine or should I buy a new one with greater towing capacity?

I am new to tyhis and have been lurking this site for a while.

Looking at what you have I would say that you are right around the 750 - 780 lbs hitch weight fully loaded. This is only rated for 800 lbs. Your unit is dry weight rated right around 5800 lbs and full loaded around 7800 lbs. (it all adds up fast)

Being honest I would have to say that it would be better for you to get the Equilizer and not this hitch. This would be better suited for a person that has a hybrid camper or camper in that size categorize.

Look at getting an Equilizer hitch that is rated at 10,000/1000 lbs. With that set up correctly you will have no problem towing your trailer.
