Herk, from your pictures it looks like if the plates holding the tubes were welded below the centerline of the tube by the same amount as they are above it, the plates could be attached below the ramp as you had it originally. I think the tubes are just about 1-1/4" 1-1/2" too low.

Butch is aware. If the tubes were on top of the mount; instead of below; it would capture 100% of the time. He has 20 Pullrite users right now that he needs to get satisfied. Like I said he is working on a permanent fix.

Butch is shipping me a test article by the end of the week. I will be camping all the following week and will be back Tuesday a week.

It should be a bolt on match since the mounting plates are the same; just the bar will be on top instead of the bottom of the plates.

Film at Eleven...

The "First Article" is here and looks GREAT.
I will install it tomorrow (tons of stuff to do today).

It has a shorter handle bend (my request) and was pre center punched so it would match up to my hitch holes.

The rod now goes behind the capture plate wedge and prevents the capture plate from moving rearward at all! Talk about a positive latch!

I will photo and test when I do the install.

Ready for prime time

Butch's new mounts came pre center punched and were a breeze to install using the old holes and the previously supplied bits.

I love the new shorter handle and the fact that I get that side on the bed back for all my stuff.

Every test was solid.

In fact the new bar location prevents the capture plate from moving aft beyond about 1/2 inch. When I tried to pull away with the bar in place and the camper unhitched, no amount of tugging would break it free.

Trying (once) to do a fast pull away only yanked my camper off the chocks.

Many thumbs up.

The only problem I had was with the first article I received was one end of the bar retention cable pulled loose. Very non-critical and Butch said he would make sure all the replacement cables were double staked.

Butch's King Pin Safety Latch

Just installed one of Butch's King Pin Safety Latch's on our 2500HD with a Husky 16K 5th Wheel Hitch Set-up. Looked at all the others that were available, this was about as simple as you can get and the price is perfect, along with looking pretty good as well.
Thanks Butch for turning us on to your product, we have used it and felt really safe in getting set-up for the road.
