Thumbs down Dometic A/C

I purchased a 2013 Salem Cruise Lite about 3 months ago, it was not even 6 months old. I am the second owner. The A/C started making load noises last weekend. A fellow camper heard the noise and informed me that the fan was out of balance due to one of a number of reasons. I emailed Dometic about the problem and inquired about the warranty on the A/C. They informed me that even though the unit was not a year old there is NO warranty on their A/C because I am the second owner. What a pathetic corporation that will not even transfer the warranty on their products for at least the remainder of the 1 year warranty.

Sad, but an industry wide practice. There is most likely no warranty on anything in your camper as the second owner.

I'm interested in what solution you find to fix it as the same thing just happened a couple days ago on our return trip from Texas.

Make sure your voltage source is putting out at least 115 volts.

At voltages below 115, the compressor can struggle to get started.

I just heard from Dometic. I told them in my original email that I was posting what they said on this forum. Now miraculously they are sending a mobile tech to my home to replace the fan. I never told them anything about a fan. I just said that it was very loud. There must be a problem with these units and they know it!

Send a message via MSN to Tiggerdad
There was a post on here or another forum I visit few days ago that some Dometic had improper mounting bushings that caused vibration and noise. There was a fix that included new mounts. They would be easy to replace once you got the correct ones. You could remove the cover, then start the compressor. Might give you an idea of the problem

The tech that Dometic hired came out today and replaced the fan on my A/C unit. It had a broken fan blade. Keith @ American Dreams RV Service from Lake City Florida did a great job. A big thumbs UP for him!!!!!!

What in the world would cause that to happen? Did he give you any ideas or just replace it?

just got up and took the cover off mine - I had two blades broken! sheesh...

Gonna check Camping World that just opened down the street from us to see if they carry one in stock (no luck online), otherwise I'll just order from the adventureRV site. $6 part....lol, but it sure does make a rattle! Easy come, easy go.

They sure do make a LOT a noise!!! They are designed not last since they a made from cheap junk material!!
I just finished installing the digital thermostat in my unit. Mine originally had the 2 knobs. Once again Dometic makes it as difficult as possible to install it. You have to make your own mount for the new control box and of course there are NO instructions. I must have emailed back and forth 10 times. But it works GREAT. Now the A/C and fan shuts off when it reaches the preset temp and automatically kicks back on. Maybe now we can here the TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fan never shuts off. So you're saying that can be fixed with a different thermostat? The unit cools just fine.

This is why we replaced our Dometic heat pump with a new Atwood unit. Much quieter, lower power draw and higher capacity. Unfortunately Dometic bought out Atwood but it is still a superior piece of equipment. The Atwood thermostat is also much nicer and easier to use than the Dometic thermostat we had.
