Sorry, thought you might be asking about the LowClearance program. Don't know what RTFM is.

Streets & Trips. I bought the program for both, my Garmin and Streets & Trips.

Come on OC. Surely you've heard that one before.
RTFM = Read The (fill in the blank) Manual.

No, not much into the latest initially speak. Our boys are grown.

You have to buy the low clearance and bridge as stated above. As far as restrictions you have to check your route and then look up the bridge or tunnel. To me the new model from what I have read is really almost the same as the Garmin 2460LMT. You can also load base camp for routeing that's free from Garmin. I find it a little hard to use. I have both Streets and trips from Microsoft and Goggle maps. any of them will transfer to your Garmin, but S&T takes an extra step. From what I read in all these post I do not find anything different between the units, but It's still new to them so It might have some good extras that you have to find.

Streets & Trips with the LowClearance addition shows alerts at all 3 locations. I would imagine the 2460LMT would also, but haven't tried inputting it in the Garmin.

RTFM isn't new. In the computer biz, RTFM was a common rejoinder back in the 80s.

Hi Ken, I know you just got the new GPS but I have a couple of quick (hopefully) easy questions.
I currently have the Rand McNally RV GPS and when I save a route it doesn't save any of the detours I programmed in. It just saves the origin and destination, when I turn on the GPS again and go to the saved route I have to put the detours in again. Does the Garmin hold a saved route with any changes you might have added to the route?
My other easy question, does your Garmin have the option to display the current elevation?

Not into confuser lingo either. I learned everything on chalk boards, pencils & paper. Not even calculators, used a Post Versalog Slide Rule (which I still have 1958 model). Did get trained on Cad in 1980.

Hi, Bob/Joyce.
Second answer first: Yes
The field in the lower right corner can be set to show one of several values, including:
arrival time
time 'till arrival
distance to destination
elevation
time 'till next via point
arrival time at next via point
distance to via point
next mile marker
Second answer (first question): Yes and no.
Let me explain. I've never used detours on my Rand McNally unit, and I havent used them yet on this unit, so I did some experimenting. On the Garmin, "detour" seems to be a transient thing--when you're on a route and approaching something you want to avoid, you hit "Detour" and then choose a distance: .5, 2, or 5 miles. It then computes an alternate route for you for that distance. I don't see how you can do that with a route that you're planning for later.
However, the Garmin also has "Custom Avoidances" where you can specify a portion of a road to avoid by indicating a starting and ending point for the segment. You can also specify an area to avoid by touching opposite corners of the area (limitation: the area must be rectangular and its sides must be vertical and horizontal). These avoidances are entirely separate from your routes.
To test this, I entered a route and looked at the map. I then set an avoidance on one of the roads chosen for the route. When I later selected that route and said "Go" it recalculated around the road I wanted to avoid. I think this might be the feature you want.
One other thought--if you're planning a route and you want to go somewhere other than where the GPS has chosen, just set a waypoint on the road you want to use and make it a stop on the trip. My tendency on the road has been to just go to the next thing I want to get to without using routes at all. After playing around with this new unit, though, I can see how routes could be a great planning tool.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Ken, and thanks for taking the time to check that for me. My birthday is coming up in September so the Garmin is on my wish list.
I'll be seeing ya in Goshen.

You're welcome!
But wouldn't it be more fun to get an expedited, early birthday present and use it to get to Goshen?

My wife is big into quilting, so she has some expensive sewing machines dedicated to this purpose. A salesperson at one of the stores she frequents said that a lot of the high-end sewing machines are purchased by men for their wives just after the guy had bought some big toy (think: bass boat) for himself.
The moral of this story is simple: BRIBE HER and then everyone will be happy!
(Granted, time is getting short for this strategy to work...)

Just order it and then ask for forgiveness. You may get the silent treatment for a couple of days and you use that time to familiarize yourself with the new Garmin. Come on, be a man!

Actually I’m waiting to read a few more reviews from actual users. I wish I had done that with the Rand McNally RV 5510 I have now. I don’t want to make the same mistake two years in a row.

If it is as good or better than our nuvi 2460LMT, you can't go wrong. Order it you will NOT be disappointed. If you are, I'll buy it from you.

Update on ecoRoute from Garmin: I spoke with support yesterday and he had to do a bit of digging to find the support FAQ below. Long and short is that the ecoRoute HD does work with the RV 760, however you need to use it in Automobile mode rather than RV. The curious thing about it, is that I enabled it in Auto mode, switched to RV mode and drove. Upon reaching my destination, ecoRoute popped up telling me how many miles traveled, MPG, and all that.
So, I've requested that they file this as a software bug and requested that they allow the ecoRoute app in RV mode. It's a safety issue as well as a time issue having to do multiple manual steps before hitting the road. That escalation is TBD but my understanding is that they have the support statement below and do not intend to address or "fix" it. :-( However, this is minor, in my mind to the overall experience I've had with the unit thus far!
