Slide out braces or stands

bought the Husky Slide out jacks from camping world.....work great and have made a world of difference......the price wasn't too bad....something like this could be home made but none the less these did as advertised......

Why do you feel you need them? Possibly the worst thing you can do. If they are used, and you have some type of failure, like a flat while parked, the camper "box" will go down, but the slide will not, probably resulting in a BIG BIG expensive repair that will not be covered by any type of warranty.
These supports have been brought up before, and it was strongly advised against using them.
Wouldn't let those anywhere near my rig.
This is one of those products that falls under the "if someone will make it, there will always be someone that will buy it"

Weird. Outlaw seems more grumpy than Grumpy!

Grumpy just expressed his opinion of jacks; while he was certainly straight to the point, I don't think he was at all nasty about it.

Just MY opinion.

My dealer would not sell me a set. His reasoning was that if the trailer shifted the jacks would hold the slide outs in place and cause damage to the slides. They were designed for the older style trailers that did not have the same support under the slide.

We were told to not use them because they can void the warranty and they won't be needed. We are seasonal campers and leave the slide outs open all summer long. We had no problem.

I was in no way implying that the OP, Outlaw was a "sucker". I ment to imply that there is so much "stuff" out there for our rigs and that while most of it serves a good purpose, there are products for sale that are not needed or serve no purpose. Those jacks are not needed for our rigs, are a danger, and will cause a lot of problems and damage if the rig settels in any way. They may sound like something "we all need, and must have" but I think someone at CW should have told the OP they werent needed.
I think we have all seen products thet looked really great at first glimpse, but when we stopped and thought about the application, saw that it was a bad idea. Or done a bit of research about the product. In this case I think that if Outlaw had searched the forum for info on these jacks he would have gotten the info he needed to make the decision not to get them.

Question? If you have auto leveling won't the leveling jacks support the weight of the trailer even if a tire were to go down, would it still not be level and not cause any problems if you used slide stabilizer? Just wondering!

I'm thinking of adding 2 more jacks mid coach to stiffen up the side sway a bit which I would hope help the 4 point system and stabilizer bars that came as standard equip.

Trying Baby steps.. I know I won't get rid of all bounce but want to tone it down a bit..

Outlawadventurer: Please don't let some of these posts chase you off. At the end of camping season, some of our folks could argue about the sun coming up tomorrow. Hypothetical problems are great fun to "discuss" in the absence of real world data. Please don't take us too seriously.

Short answer yes, but the slides shouldn't drop to begin with.

to all, I was in bad mode last night, no problem.....and retracted my post.....shortly later...Grumpy was just to the point on his view and it is a free forum and free country.....I took offense a little quick.....mostly cause I am not the type person that likes to explain myself very often, nor justify anything....here is how I should have responded and why we use them....

we only use them as needed when extra people and weight are on board, for us it is nothing to have 4 or 5 full grown adults on board for dinner or a get together......and it is under the slide that catches most of the weight......these aren't something we leave in place all the time....

personally I take good enough care and preventive maintenance, that I am really not worried about the supports being there for 3 or 4 hours....

as a hydraulic engineer, I do realize that hydraulics leak down and tires do deflate....

and the primary reason I bought them was to use as stabilizers on the other trailer in place of extra siccor jacks in which, I place on the frame work.....because, they also work when stabbed into the ground at an angle for a cheap for, port to starboard bracing and will kick out if the rig should fall....and when needed I but them together and use as a crossbar to lock some of the equipment in place, like a jacking bar....

the added benefit for me is, I use them around shop....currently one of four I bought is supporting a lift arm that I will eventually finish welding....these are lighter and easy to manuver in tight places, compared to my rigid braces and have a locking lug with out a friction or binding lock....

the only thing I am really saying in the review is that if you use them, they seem to support the weight as advert. and the fact that the adjusting lug doesn't strip....

and that for the intended uses that we use on our rig and projects that they work.......

Really didn't mean to stir this up, because yes I agree that some rigs this can damage and at the same time due to design, quality and actual placement, they more than likely aren't going to cause a bit of damage......

so everyone please resume and have a nice weekend....

got to go, treat or treaters are starting in park....
