We took delivery of our Windjammer in late September and took one trip in early October. I did not install the cartridge for that trip as I do use a Camco external filter.. After returning I wanted to remove the housing to drain the water and when I applied the housing wrench and gave a pull, I pulled the unit right off the flimsy paneling the filter unit was screwed to under the bathroom vanity. At that point I decided to remove the filter and installed a short piece of PEX in its place. I might build a stand to use the FR1 filter outside, but then replacement cartridges do run $30! BTW so far I have not been able to find info as to the micron rating of the KW1 cartridge.

After reading all of problems I also removed the water filter as soon as possible. Decided to make a stand for it so it could sit outside of the trailer and still get used. It wasn't in an easy location to get to in the first place and you're spot on about pulling it loose when attempting to remove the bowl.

That is a good looking stand!

Thanks! It's a bit overkill, but I sized it so I could use our water filter that we already had for camping. Figured I would at least get a season out it, and if it if started leaking or unscrewing itself, out it goes and the old one goes on.

Too be honest, I'm leery of these - messing around with it on the workbench sure doesn't leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. Tighten up as much as you dare, and it takes very little torque to loosen back up - which is what many have reported on the forum.

The filter housing on our CCI-10CLW12 exploded this morning, flooding the cabinet under the TV in our 2013 Windjammer. The unit has NEVER been in freezing conditions. After researching replacement parts, we decided to save a boatload of cash by removing and trashing the unit. An entire Camco filtration system can be had for the price of ONE of their replacement filters, to say nothing of the defective housing that gave way for no apparent reason.

If I may offer a suggestion.

Put the replacement outside.

Buy or build a stand, use a 1/2 inch threaded PVC nipple to connect the two lines where the filter was.

I'm absolutely going to do that, but will be using a Camco exterior filtration setup that costs a fraction of the price so I can get replacement filters at any RV/camping store. (In the middle of winter in Snowbird Heaven, NO ONE carries the filter for the factory-installed unit on the shelf -- I checked. So it's out.)

dmtex,

The for the recommendation. Unfortunately my waterpur cracked in the thread line as well. I took your device and purchased a plastic nipple to remove the filter attachment. I added plumbers tape and screwed it on tightly. Now all that's left is to purchase a camco filter. I'll be testing out in a few months. I should have looked in the forums for a solution before leaving. Oh well, you live and learn. Thanks again.

I've been reading about the issues with filter housings coming apart or breaking. Has there been issues with this one? This is in a 20015 Wind Jammer. This is second season and have had no issues. Haven't had a filter in it and that canister is tight. It has come off fine when winterizing last year and dewinterizing this year.

I'm sorry, I'd have to defer to more senior members. I own a Rockwood freedom 2280bh which has a different model waterpur housing which has a female type screw connector. I will say that based on the photo, it is located inside the trailer. If that is the case I would recommend repositioning it in a location outside of your trailer. Oddly enough in my popup the filter is too close to the fuse box, if I had not noticed it before connecting the water hose, I think there would have been more damage than just a filter housing.

Yes there has been problems with the FR1 Cannister. Most of the problems that you hear are about the cannister blowing off (Becoming unscrewed) when under pressure. This is not a fault of the canisters, but of the operator/owners. These canisters are designed to only work with the KW1 filter at about 30 bucks each. Some other filters will fit but not work properly. Many use them without a filter, when they do this, they tighten them down to tight breaking the locking tabs off of the canister causing them to blow off. As long as you use them with the proper KW1 filter, it should not be a problem. This place is the cheapest i have found them at, sometimes on sale for around 22.00, they also do free shipping.

I think many will disagree with you assessment of the problem with these filters.

Many may, I have been using mine for 4 years now and I still have the original cannister. On out Columbus Group, I have seen many of them break the locking tabs offf by not using a filter, agree to disagree, I am just stating what I have seen.

Dont Read This!

Don't read this if you like (Water leaks inside your unit/have to remove screws and panels to access your water filter/don't know what is flowing into your water system because the (See thru clear housing is Hidden inside the unit somewhere)/have to buy (Special Size Elements $$)/cant select what Filter element media you use/cant select what Micron size in your element! I like the filter outside off the ground and can buy replacement (10" elements) anywhere! I choose the (Type and Media) not some RV dealer! Youroo!!

Is that the FR1 canister or a different one?

Do you see any drop in flow or pressure with it?

Yep, that's exactly the same unit as I had explode on me. When it comes time to change the filter, you might want to consider removing the entire unit and installing a much cheaper but equally effective Camco filter outside the RV.
