Wi-Fi Reception Booster

RalphieAdie turned me on to this little gem. The Etekcity WiFi booster would make a good Christmas gift. This little device is great for those campgrounds that offer free Wi-Fi but your site is too far away from the transmitter to get a good signal. Here’s the real bonus, it costs less than 20 dollars.

I tested this device at 370 Lakeside Park in St. Peters, MO. The park offers free Wi-Fi but my site was too far away to pick up any signal at all. When I plugged the Etekcity Wi-Fi booster into my laptop it found the campground's Wi-Fi with excellent signal strength. This device worked like a charm.

I have to give this little gem a 5-star rating. Did I mention the price is just under 20 dollars? How can you go wrong buying this?

It has a USB to plug into your computer so does it just boost the signal to the signal to the unit that its plugged into or can multiple devices in your RV feed off of it? And where can it be bought?

It just boosts the signal to the device it is plugged in to. I bought mine from Amazon.

There are many WiFi signal amplifiers on the market. Prices range from $10 to over $100. Look for at least 1000mw (1 watt) output and a good hi-gain antenna(s) at least 6dbi gain. I have external antennas that have 20dbi gain, both omnidirectional and directional. The amplifier that Oakman has does have 1000mw output and dual 6dbi gain which is good enough for most RV parks with WiFi. I was at a RV resort in FL for 3 days and they had excellent WiFi throughout the park. I also noticed they had 3 hi-gain antennas on the roof of the office that were aimed in different directions for great coverage.

Since it has its own wireless "card" you can use the laptop's own internal wireless card and antenna to rebroadcast the connection on an "internal to the camper" network in "SOME" campgrounds.

Any campground that assigns a unique IP address to each device will require only one device (phone, tablet, or laptop) to be "on" (in use) at the same time and require a separate sign in. In this case the above may not work. (like TENGA fee for service)

Other campground systems (using network repeaters) that allow connection sharing, the above should work.
