SS-550 truck camper

Group, I am looking at possibly upgrade my older Sun Lite truck camper with a SS-550 truck camper. After spending some time at the dealer I had a couple questions for the group;
1. I did not see a drawer for kitchen utensils and silverware, how do others deal with these or did I miss a good storage area for these items?
2. What Porta-potty will fit in the cabinet under the dinette? brand and model people would recommend, and is a platform of some type recommended to put it on so it is not so low for us older campers?
3. How difficult is it to raise the top manually if a roof lift motor gives a problem? It would be a real bummer to get out camping and no way to do it manually.

Thanks for your input or opinions.

Not very many TC owners here. I'm about the only one...

I have a SS 1500 so it has the inside shower / toilet combo so I cannot answer your question on potra-potty's. I would imagine the Dometic 5 gallon unit would for however. You can get the dimensions from the Dometic website.

My sliverware storage is in a drawer below the sink next to the front wall and the drawer comes with a silverware organizer.

The top can be raised manually but it's a royal PITA. Having said that, I have has no issues with mine whatsoever and mine has been up and down many, many times. Grim what I've read, only the limit switches sometimes screw up and those are pretty accessable.

I'm older too...67

I have an HS6601. It is a hard side with a bathroom. For our silverware, I cut the organizer to fit in the drawer under the cook top next to the furnace. That's the only drawer in the camper.
I think that a Thetford or Coleman porta potty would work but as far as a platform would depend on your size and comfort needs.

My SS 1500 has a pooper and a shower and 2 propane tanks, for what, I have no idea. One would have been plenty I think the HS's and the SS's have different layouts My silverware drawer (and organizer) is under the sink at the front above the bunk step up.

I would have bought one without but my wife insisted....lol

I have had my 550 since 2015
1) I keep my silverware in a Tupperware container that fits in the cabinet under the sink.
2) We just use good old nature when nature calls
3)I have not seen a place to manually lift the top. This would be a big problem if the motor ever fails. I do occasionally have problems with the top not coming down, especially if the unit isn't level at the time. Usually some lubricant on the lift mechanism does the trick.
