What are you using to haul your Palomino 6601 or 8801

Have recently got interested in a 6601 or 8801 Palomino truck camper,so we can haul our boat. About the only TC I can find that'll work with my set up. Have a 03 F250 7.3 crew cab, long bed 4x4

The combo of the Diesel, 4x4 and long bed really saps the available payload. Probably lowest in its class.

Would rather have the 8801 for the North/South bed, but understand it adds another 3 or 4 hundred pounds.

Interested in hearing what other rigs are used for both, and if you think my rig could handle an 8801.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

I believe the new 6601 has a north/south bed in the cabinet

I had a 8801 on 2003 F350 extended cab short box 4x4. Even on a fairly shout 1 ton truck I added air bags for stability. The air bags and struts over the cab made it a very pleasant rig. Loved the 8801 for price point and features but outgrew it.

I HAVE A 2013 PALOMINO 6601. WE WERE HAULING IT WITH A 2012 RAM 2500 5.7L HEMI, CREW CAB LONG BOX. WE FOUND THAT WE DID NOT LIKE THE SWAY IT HAD SO WE INSTALLED SUPER SPRINGS. THE SUPER SPRINGS WORKED AMAZING! STEADIED THE LOAD AND DROVE GREAT! WE TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO UPGRADE TO A 2015 RAM 3500 6.4L HEMI, CREW CAB LONG BOX, LAST FALL AND THIS NEW TRUCK HAULS THE CAMPER LIKE NOTHING.
WE ALSO PULL TRAILERS WITH OUR RIG, EITHER A 2 HORSE TRAILER OR A FLATDECK HAULING A JEEP, SO I THINK WE ARE GOING TO ADD SUPERSPRINGS TO THIS NEW TRUCK AS WELL JUST TO MAKE IT AS STABLE AND SAFE AS POSSIBLE.
I RECOMMEND THE SUPERSPRING PRUDUCT OVER AIR BAGS, AS THE SPRINGS DO NOT ENGAGE UNTIL UNDER LOAD SO YOUR RIDE UNLOADED DOES NOT CHANGE AND AFTER THEY ARE INSTALLED THERE IS NOT MORE FIDDLING AROUND WITH THEM.

Just purchased an 8801 and have it in a 2016 F350 crewcab with the shortbed in 4X4. Tried to put a truck camper in my F150 and just didn't have the capacity to carry anything. My F350 has a GVWR of 11,300 pounds. It barely touched the overloads when set in. However I still put in uniroyal air bags to level the truck back again. I also wanted the slide in so I could pull our small fishing boat. Good luck.
