2004 Lexington
Hello all,
I've got a 2004 Lexington with a bit of an electrical problem. I'm also a newbie at this, having only owned the coach for about three months. Other than this bit of confusion I love it.
As I understand it, the house has a separate battery system from the cab. These two systems are supposed to be independent unless I start the engine allowing the batteries to be charged, or, if my cab battery goes dead, I hit a, for lack of a better word, a boost switch that lets me start the engine from the house batteries.
For some reason the two systems seem to be connected all the time. If my house batteries go dead, the cab goes dead. If I charge the house batteries with the 30 amp cord, the cab battery charges. If I charge the cab battery (as I did with a portable battery charger) the house batteries charge.
I understand there is a switch or relay or solenoid that somehow keeps the two systems separate, but I'm not sure if I am explaining it correctly. I think I have the scenario set in my mind, but would someone mind telling me if I'v got it right?
I've tried to explain it to my regular mechanic and have had it looked at by an automotive technician and he said the solenoid was staying open, but he wasn't sure enough to try and fix it. Where would I go to get something like this fixed?
I have a new battery in the cab and am putting two new ones in the house system as soon I get this solved. The house ones charge just fine off of the cord connection but they do seem to drain a bit too fast.
I know this is a rather long message, but any info would be appreciated.
