20pack10 hot water only for a few seconds

Hey guy so I have a new 20pack10 toy hauler and I absolutely love it !

I am plugged in to power, and also have propane open for furnace.

I am only getting hot water for a few seconds? And then it's cold... if I turn hot water switch on I don't see any thing happen but with electric I don't know if I will

I checked fuses and all , breakers etc, and all ok....

I also bleed water off at the valve under the out door cover , it has water, also the electric switch is on

If a brand new unit, my first use??? Any thing that causes that?

When you open the Temp & Pressure relief valve (T&P) on the water heater, is the water that comes out there hot? If so, then most likely you have the bypass/crossover valve (s) set incorrect. This is a common thing that dealers fail to explain.

100% correct. The cold water was closed, the middle open.....

Although when I check the pressure release valve I had water.

••although I do not have hot water exactly like I should. No issue... fixed....

Should I worry about my element now???? :/

Can't believe I was not told about that

If it's keeping the water hot on electric only, you're good. The element either works or it doesn't.

Shouldn't be any flame with electric.

Open the outside door and turn on the switch there (turns on electric heating element. Go inside your TT and turn OFF the switch there (turns off the gas).

Then if it keeps making hot water, you'll know your electric heating element is still good.

You can run both together if desired - it will recover quicker if, say, two people want to take showers close together.

But most people just run it on electric if they have shore power - why waste your gas?

So it will only work when I turn my propane on... the outside switch is on..

If I open the propane bottles and then turn the hot water switch on inside the camper I have hot water

So I guess the electric element burned up because I tried a good bit with the hose on the cold side off at the water heater

One other thing to check - look for the circuit breaker for the water heater. You might have gotten lucky and it tripped; but chances are slim.

Check breaker and it is on, so I assume the element is nice and toasty...
My buddy knows how to do it( owns a few RV's)

My question is I have looked for a serial number and don't see it... it's a suburban unit

It's in a 2015 20pack10 wolf pack...

There should be a model number somewhere on it. I've attached the owner's manual that covers the most popular models.

We have info in the FAQ area about water heaters!
Read it!!
You can get a 120v 1500 watt screw in heater at Home Depot for under $10.
Here's one for $7
1500-Watt 120-Volt Screw-In Type High Watt Density Water Heater Element-15896 - The Home Depot
Two important things to remember when shopping for a HW heater at Home Depot, hardware store, Lowes etc... You most likely need a 120 Volt and 1400 or 1500 watt.
(Large 50 amp service seasonal trailers might use a 240 volt so you have to check!)

I have read it.

If I have electric switch outside on do I need the water heater switch on? Or only if I want to use both

Outside switch runs electric element. Inside switch runs propane to heat water. Use one at a time or both. Each switch controls a different source to create hot water.

My last 3 trailers had the outside "hidden" switch for the electric heater.
Since I hated going out there to switch it I turned it off and on with the
circuit breaker inside. The outside switch eventually stuck on in my last
trailer. I didn't care because I used the breaker.
My current rig has 2 inside wall switches- one for LP gas hot water and one
for electric hot water.
This is why I hesitated to give you a definitive answer. I didn't figure it would be helpful to tell you "maybe" to your question!

Happy camping!

If you only have the outside switch for the electric heating element and you either get tired of going outside to use it and you don't want to use the circuit breaker, you can install an inside switch like I did. See pics and wiring diagram. Note in the first pic I replaced the electrical box that the water heater plugs into because you need to install a "real" duplex outlet instead of that crappy RV style they use.
