2306 Murphy Bed Latch Modifications or?

My husband has a question regarding our new 2306 Murphy Bed. In the up position there is a latch on either side that slides into a hole on a bracket. Though both brackets are hard to slide the one on the left is not quite as straight as it should be. It just does not want to line up so you can put the slide into the hole. He was wondering about whether to move the brackets into the proper position or just forget about the brackets/slides altogether and just modify the system to just put a strap across running from side to side. Has anyone had a problem with keeping the bed up ? or the brackets? etc.? thanks for any input.

We moved ours so that hole pieces were level and not so far back made it easier to slide no problems!

I should say we moved the hole piece not the latch.
