30 Amp Surge Protector
I'm sure this will open a new opinion arena, but what 30 amp surge protector do many use and why. Prices are all over the spectrum. I do not need or desire a 50amp - even for future use. Thanks in advance.

Progressive Industries EMS series for sure. Prices have such a big range between brands because protection levels have a big range. You get what you pay for. Here is a link comparing models.

Thanks for all the great Feedback -finally lol. This why I joined this forum. Unbiased info.
Ok, how does one lock it to prevent nice people from permanently borowing it? I see the ring, but how is it locked to TT?
OOPs I just looked up. I guess I could get the hard wired version instead.

I just installed EMSHW30C from Progressive Industries, just be sure if you do purchase this unit, to remove the jumper for a longer delay(for the A/C). Easy to install, don't have to go outside to see trouble codes and you don't have to worry about theft.

I use a long neck padlock and lock it to the steps under the trailer. You can also chain it to the pole with a lock.

Yes, progressive. Mine is 5 years old and is plugged in at home too. I also check the pedestal with a volt meter before plugging in my $200 progressive..

30 Amp Surge Protector
PT30C 30 Amp Portable EMS. This thing identified an open ground on my house. Trailer had a hot skin. It paid for itself already.

Follow up Question - If one uses a meter to check the "utility pole" prior to hook up, does that mostly elininate the need to have this type of item installed or are the "surges" vs miswiring common enough to need some form of surge protection 24/7 when plugged in?

I had a situation where a storm came through, ripped my awning off my camper, ended up taking the awning leg and piercing the power cord. Never tripped a breaker in my unit or the campground. When I got out of the camper Because of the loud bang and the camper shook I used the awning as a railing and as soon as I touched the ground and awning at same time I got jolted. I did not have one of these at the time, but I am sure a hard wired system would have been able to see that there was an issue and my entire camper shell was energized.

FYI, I was all set to purchase the EMS-HW30C in anticipation of wiring up my soon to be TT.
Their website has it at full list price ($299 + S&H), Amazon has it for $239 plus free s&h, a post on their website had soemone getting it for $183.20 a couple of months ago.
Kathi Moore / Office Manager of Progressive Industries, Inc. said after a lengthgy discussion, lack of a call back, ... "I’m sorry but we can’t honor the price of $183.20. That was a special sale we were running over the holiday."
As they say on “Pawn Stars”, Let me know if you reconsider or put it on sale again. I can wait or get something else - only because of the extentensive grief from everyone I had to talk to at Progressive Industries. A simple no would have been sufficient and I would have probably bought it on Amazon.
I am sure it works, but now I question their claims and possible warranty.

Progressive EMS-PT-30C Surge Protector
Hi, Just wanted to let you know I have a Progressive EMS-PT-30C for sale. Bought it last year for $235 and used maybe 20 times. Selling TT so am looking to sell the surge protector. It works great and gives you a sense of security that you won't blow your electrical systems.
If interested, will sell for $190 including shipping.

Progressive Industries for sure. They have a lifetime warranty compared to similar brands. Mine in installed inline as I prefer not to leave it outside open to poaching.

Agree with leaving outside but I always secured with a cable bike style lock.

Thanks for the offer. I will do an interior hard wire install as part of my overall Mod.
I heard back (again) from Kathi - "I would suggest to keep an eye out on our website."
I have better things to do when I have time - This forum for one.

For information purposes, this is the cheapest I have found the progressive unit. $224 free shipping. RV Safety Accessories In
Also, it has been mentioned that the lifetime warranty is non-transferable.
I was all set to order the Progressive unit but found a deal on here for the Surge Guard unit like the one pictured above for $100.
