Is anyone else having this problem? We are going through 30amp
fuses, everytime we park our flagstaff 8528RKWS. We have to back up
hard to lock the KingPin and it bumps the 5th wheel which makes the
fuse blow...Any advice? D.
Hi Thanks for this input...at least we know where to look...NOT sure how to locate the short...other than re-wiring? Is this a soldering connection issue...Is this something we can SEE? or test with the amp meter? really dumb here and appreciate talking to knowledgible folk...and maybe some other servicing issues to take care of ....They tell us we can't lube the hitch or plate...We have a reese revolution hitch on this 5th wheel..TKS. D.

Someone needs to show you how to hook up the camper. You need to be about 1/2 inch above the 5th wheel plate when the plate is held level. If you are lifting the camper when you connect you are too low. If the plate is tilted toward the tailgate you are too high. The king pin skid should slid right up onto the 5th wheel plate and right before it latches the tail of the plate should be a tad lower than the front. The last inch your snap the jaws shut. No banging.
Practice connecting and disconnecting several times to get a feel for where it should be. If the camper does not latch immediately; DO NOT continue. Pull forward slightly and LOOK at what is wrong. Too high; Too low; too crooked. Fix what is wrong and try again.
Use a DRY lube on the hitch mechanism (like silicon spray of powdered graphite). It keeps dirt out the the latch that causes sticking.
