a/c cycling issue?

I have a 2008 Surveyor SV 234 with the 13.5k Dometic a/c unit. The controls are on the grill of the unit.

We have used the a/c for 2 weekends (about a month apart). Both times we have been connected to a good 30 amp source.

The a/c gets frigid and blows plenty of air. The "filter" behind the grill is clean. The problem is that the compressor doesn't seem to cycle often enough. During the night, we freeze, then sweat, then freeze, then sweat, etc.

Is this normal? Is there a way to correct this?
I don't see anything about this in the Dometic manual...of course I could have missed it. I have only been camping twice in 6 weeks of ownership and this is my first travel trailer.

Thanks for any help. I've learned a ton by reading this board.

Matt

Go get a better thermostat. One for a single stage heat pump works great. There are several posts on here concerning that mod. I did it to mine, and it cycles on and off plenty and works great. 29.95 at Ace Hardware store for the one I use now. Wiring them in is pretty easy, as well. Randy

The posts I've found regarding upgrading thermostats all refer to wall mounted thermostats. My controls are on the grill of the unit. Can I install a wall mounted thermostat with this type of controls?

Not too sure about that setup. That sounds like how my Fleetwood/Coleman pop up was. I really don't think that is replacable. On mine it ran full time, but the compressor cycled on and off. We also froze a lot! Randy
