A.C keeps kicking the breaker

Hello all I have what maybe a stupid question.. My a.c kicked the breaker while hooked up in my driveway, I'm hooked up to the 15amp adapter with a 50ft extension cord going to my garage. On that same circuit that my extension cord is hooked to I also have a refrigerator on it. Could it be that the cord is to long, or maybe the fridge in the garage kicked on the same time the a.c did, maybe the cord is to small.Any help would be apreciated, and thankyou very much

Which breaker tripped? House or 5'ver. Most likely, you are trying to pull too many amps from that outlet. An AC usually takes close to 20 amps. What guage wire is your 50' cord? Many are only 16 AWG. This can handle about 15 amps max (wouldn't want to do it long). The longer the wire, the more voltage drop you get. This requires more amps to run the load. The small guage wire creats resistance, the amp flow increases, creating heat. Breaker weakens and trips or cord starts to melt. Try to find a cord the length you need, shortest possible. Also try to use a 12 AWG or even better if you can find on, 10 AWG. Still might not work, IMO you are asking a great deal from a 15 amp outlet. Good luck.
