ac not cooling

hi,
we bought a 2014 coachmen in march. now that we need the ac we learned that it is not cooling. its running etc.
had a tech come out to campsite to check, and he said the compressor is not drawing enough power, indicating a leak....
soooo...he suggested replacing the whole unit for a total of $1500...ouch....help.

does anyone have any experience with fixing a leak? how dowa it work and what parts are required?

I am not sure what they charge in labor in your area, but it cost me around $1100 for new AC. That said the price difference between repair and new might be close enough to consider the new. As for the repair part I am surprised others haven’t chimed in several very helpful peeps on the forum. Of course it is around the 4 th July

FWIW:

I know others smarter than I have posted that these RV AC units do not come with the fittings required to recharge them. So they are "one time use only." There is a thread somewhere here on the forum in which someone added the required fittings and then recharged. You might want to do some searching, if you know someone who would be able to actually do the work.

There are also postings concerning a bad batch of Dometic AC units. IIRC, they were from around the year of your TT.

RV air conditioners are like Bic lighters. You can’t refill them and you buy a new one when the old one stops working.

Get the model and serial number off the unit and call Dometic. You never know, it may be in the bad batch and they may replace it as a good will gesture. It can't hurt and even if they say no, you're no worse off than you are now.

If you're handy you can replace the unit yourself. Well, with some strong help lifting it on and off the roof.
