Another battery

I was under my 2018 2861DS today and found another battery attached behind generator. Never knew it was there...anyone else?

Motorhomes usually have one for the vehicle, one or more for the camper (house battery).

Yes, I have one vehicle battery and two house batteries under the step, this is another one underneath mounted behind the generator.

what type generator? i think some of the larger generators have their own starting battery. but i'm not sure about this.

It's a Onan RV QG 4000, and I'm pretty sure it is a starting battery, it's just my Freelander did not have one. There is no mention of this anywhere, I just wanted other owners of this model and similar models to know about it if they didn't already.

no that generator does not come with its own battery. you might trace the cables and see what they connect to: chassis or house. did you buy it new? does the dealer know?

Normally they do not, I bought this new, I'll check with the dealer, I just wanted to let other 2861DS owners know. I haven't chased the wiring all the way, but it is mounted behind the gen., attached to it's frame and the wiring heads toward the gen.

If it was a starting battery for the generator how does it get recharged? That generator does not have 12 volt recharging abilities. And if I was connected to the converter then it would also be connected to your two other house batteries. Is there a second converter / charger dedicated to charged this battery?

Talked (emailed) with Jim Feece at FR, "The Chevy chassis comes with 2 batteries. This only used for the chassis." and it is in parallel with the main chassis battery.
