Another winterizing question.....

What do you guys/gals do for the furnace vent openings?
Do you cover them with anything?

Also, I have seen people take the refrigerator cover off, put a plastic bag to cover the opening, then put the cover back on.....does anyone here do that?

I never have covered furnace opening. Good idea. If I was to do it id use painters tape over it.
I store mine inside so not real important other than mice but they'll chew through steel bars.

I put plastic over the fridge opening and then put the cover back on. THis is due to something I think Crocus brought up last year about how they only put silicone or what ever the sealant is on the lower edge of the opening and of course snow will blow in and almost fill that area and when it melts you get the side walls wet on the inner skin. Putting plstic over it and then the cover back on prevents snow from getting in the opening. I saw this first hand last winter so I blew it all out and then started with the plastic.

John - Good point about the plastic over the fridge opening. Although I never noticed a problem, I could definitely see this as a problem.

Kim, I've heard of people doing just what you described with their A/C because of stories that snow blew in and somehow got into their trailer, which caused damage in the spring. Again, I've not had the problem in the past, but others have.

The trailer next to mine at the storage facility has his fridge done like this......just thought I would ask and see if it was OK to do. =]
