As far as adding to holding tanks, I usually get enough down the drain when filling the system waiting for the pink stuff to come out. That is if you blow out the water first and drain the tanks completely.
I just did my MH with one gallon of antifreeze.
Waterless traps? Please explain!

Why not replacing the filter housing by a short pipe with fittings. Having a filter out of the RV permit to leak on the ground rather than in the rig.

Keep away of eventual problem.

That's the plan. I didn't have time find or make a solution this fall though.

I do not run antifreeze thru the water lines. I blow them out, have been doing this method for over 10 years. I then pour antifreeze in the traps, toilet and some into the tanks. I leave my tank valves open so putting a lot in the tank will just run out. Have never had a problem with any freezing.

I don't recommend leaving the dump valves open. But if you do someone recently posted a vented cap that would solve the critter issue.

How do these work with hair? DW has shoulder length hair and every so often I have to clean the clumps out of the shower drain at both the house and TT. I would think the hair would block them open.

Waterless traps are fairly new to the rv world I believe. They are basically a duck bill check valve. Opens as water passes through, in one direction only, then closes to prevent back flow or gases. used for a long time in other applications. To me, I think they would be trouble free if installed in the vertical but in the horizontal, we will see. Have three in our MH. Two horizontal and one vertical.

There probably used because they are probably cheaper than using a P trap ???
Good Luck !!!

Regarding leaving tank valves open. After everything is completely drained the cap is reinstalled. No critter or maggot problem.

What’s the reasoning for leaving the anode rod out for winter if the tank was drained? I put mine back in thinking it was ready to go for spring.

I put mine back in to keep critters out of the tank.

I found a grasshopper in my shower drain from our last campout. He hitched a ride on a bucket I keep in there for travel. Went to the drain looking for water and a way out I guess. I am thinking I will leave him there until DW sees him and screams for me to remove him.

They remind me of the dust boots on diesel farm tractors air filters. Out in the dusty fields they would get packed with fibers from corn stalks and they would stay slightly open until you pulled them off and cleaned them good.

Just a habit, I open the water heater bypass to make sure antifreeze flows through all of the lines and flows out the water heater, have used the same piece of stainless screen on three campers for the last fifteen years.
