any idea why this would happen?
We bought a new 2013 26tbss and just used it for the first time this week, however after we purchased it we noticed this. (see pic)It is a crack on both sides in the same place under the bed in the storage compartment area?? I wonder what it is and why it is there? Should I be concerned?

"OPS" this will be hard for you to prove these cracks were there when you bought the camper. You have used the camper one time.

I know we have a full one year warrenty bumper to bumper where we bought it locally. I just need to know it is something serious or maybe just happened when camper was being built. Wondering if it will harm the integrity of the trailer safety wise?

Looks like there was external force on the hatch door causing internal flex of the wall?? Hope they fix under warranty and if they don't then either you do or pay for repairs.

looks to me that they did not cut the opening big enough and they just pushed the door in place. You can see in the last picture the black part of the door is pushing against the interior wood.

Are you *sure* it wasn't jack knifed? I'd check for some body or tail light damage on the two vehicle.
(this was DH's response after viewing the pics for all of 2 seconds)

Looks like it was caused by the rear of the tow vehicle when backing too sharply

Don't see any external damage from a tow vehicle, etc. Looks like the opening was not cut big enough and the doors just forced into the opening.

I'm wondering also about the size of that ice chest sitting in there. It appears to be too tall for that opening. Is there a door on the other side taller than this one that the ice chest was actually placed in to?
If that ice chest was forced in to that opening, could that have caused that damage?
(shrug) I dunno, just throwing ideas out there.

It wasn't jackknifed, well not that we did. However there is no external damage anywhere, prestine, not a scratch. So seems unlikely. Weezer, the ice chest came through on the other side- it did make me chuckle though, thanks for that  It is def a head scratcher. The doors close and lock fine- I think the issue is more with the rear end where the piece of plywood was put in place maybe, was it too big and they screwed it in anyway, causing breakage on both sides from pressure??It is also just below the bed, though was there when we got it. Should have, could have, would have brought it up then had my time back.

My thought is, that the paneling was cut too tall during assembly and when the bed was placed on top, it pushed down on the edge and caused the board to "buckle" at the weakest point, that being along the sides of the 2 hatch doors.

My vote is for OC's comment on hole not being cut right and door frame being shoved in during installation. I think it's just cosmetics.

Just cosmetics IMHO ... Probably not worth the hassle to fix. Caulk it and move on?

I'd bet the door opening was not large enough too. Since it's a recent purchase, tell the RV service department now so it can be added to the list for your next visit.

Just the usual workmanship standard in the RV industry, mine was not as bad as this one but it looked like the rough opening was done with a chain saw, I just filled it with caulking, no problem.
