Thumbs down Axle Hub Dust Caps

I mentioned in another thread the poor condition of the rubber dust caps when I was checking the grease fittings. Well here are pics of the 4 of them.

The TT has been on 4 trips (5 if it was towed from IN to the dealer). The dust caps on my Jayco looked fine after 5 years of travelling. Obviously Al-Ko's mat'l isn't that great.

Ours are coming up on 5 years old now. Just took them out yesterday to purge the old grease out of the hubs. They are Al KOs and they all looked like brand new.

Your's almost look like they have been exposed to the elements? Do you not have any center caps in your wheels?

Either that or they simply had a bad batch of material come through.

I have had 2 trailers over the years with these caps and none of them ever looked like yours. Where your exposed to the sun and weather? Mine has center wheel caps over them.

Mine look just like that and are leaking grease.
I will be ordering replacements from Mike's source.

Just before our last trip, I greased all the way around and noticed that one of the seals had a crack in it. The rubber was supple so I was surprised that it had cracked. Took it around to CW and various trailer suppliers and found that no one had it.

Turns out that the seals on our '06 SV264 are an 1 1/2" while the industry norm appears to be 1 1/4". One of the dealers determined that the axles were probably made by Alko. Their solution was to buy new hubs with the more standard 1 1/4" seals. I'd prefer to replace the ones I have if they can be found. Anyone else encounter this problem?

I replaced them from a RV parts supplier in the area. I don't recall the name of the aftermarket supplier.

The rims don't have a center cap. Neither did the rims on my popup & they were in good shape after 5 years as opposed to these w/ 2 years (1 year sitting in dealer lot) on them.

You may or may not be interested, but they do make center caps that are specific to ez lube axles so you can still grease the bearings without taking the wheels off. This is what we have on ours.

The AlKo parts catalog is attached.

I noticed that they call the bearing caps Ultrulube.
Similar to EZlube or a different size?

Lou, Ultra Lube is strictly a trade name for Al Ko.

EZ lube I believe belongs to Dexter. They are the exact same thing by design but from different companies. I have no idea if any of the parts interchange.

The size thing was my question. EZlube parts are more available.
I will measure the bores today and compare the stats.
