Back Bumper Rubber end Caps fall out!
Some months ago someone here posted a DIY mod on
the rubber caps that hold our sewer dump hose
inside the back bumper.
Even though the caps seem tight and have to be pounded
or kicked back in place I've gotten home on occasion
and found one or both part way out.
The sewer hose must slide back and forth in there and
eventually bumps the caps out
I think their mod was to drill the cap and put some
sort of pin thru them but I don't remember the specifics.
We're going on a long haul in June and I need to make
this mod.
Can anyone post a link to the old thread or just tell
me again what to do??
Thanks!!

I have a copy of an article I saw in one of the camping magazines on how to do this and have it at home. I will scan the article tonight and post it. It addresses this very issue. I plan to make the mod on my trailer this spring.

Someone wrote it up here and posted details.
Probably last summer.
I remember thinking that's a good idea but I don't remember
exactly what the good idea was......

I've seen where the owner just drilled a hole through the bumper and cap and just used a Hitch Pin througn them both. Here's a link to the type product I'm talking about. http://www.gotbolts.com/index.jsp?ID...ath=to&ds=dept
Hope this helps.

I think you're right.
It would take a pretty long hitch pin to go thru the bumper.
I'm thinking one that long would be large diameter.
I guess I can drill thru and just use a long skinny bolt with a
wing nut.
Thanks!

I drilled 1/4" dia holes thru the bumper and the cap, 1/4" from the end, top and bottom. I then put a long skinny tie-warp thru the upper drilled hole, out the center hole in the cap, then up thru the bottom hole, out the center again and secured it at the top. Looks like a figure eight. That is my temporary fix till I can find either a long hitch pin or some reusable tie-wraps.

The straight section of the pin slides down the hole and into the cap and holds it there. The "curvey" part of the pin slides down on the outside over the cap. The pin has a rounded section at the top where you can just put your finger in the loop and pull it out. It works great and is easy to put in and take out.

How do they attach????? I presume that they don't work their way out like the standard ones.

Might have been me....this is an older picture, since this, I have a tube on top of the bumper for my hose, so the pin goes on the side now.

Just buy a couple of replacement rubber covers that "lock-in" to each end of your bumper hose storage. They have a section in the center that when pushed in, expand the outer edges to hold the covers in place. I have not had a problem with losing the covers since using these ones. Available at your local RV parts and accessoried dept for about five or six bucks each.

I guess I'm cheap..
I just used adhesive backed velcro on the bumper, top and bottom. Then ran a strip of non backed velcro across the cap. Nothing to catch or fall off, and I got a ton of it for $6 at Wally world. I can't seem to find the pictures of it right now. Anyway, I just peel the top tab away and remove the cap. The strap hangs by the lower piece of velcro. I found that one piece across the cap, in front of the vent hole, holds it in place just fine.

Just drill a hole in the top and install a cotter pin- such as what's found under the grease cap that holds most front disc brake rotors on, available at most any auto parts store. As long as the hole is a little snug, the pin just drops in, and then it's gravity that holds it in place. Randy

I just drilled a small hole through the bumper and the cap. I take a small philips head screw and screw it through both. That system has held for some 20,000+ miles.

Simple fix, bought a couple of cotter pins at home depot, drilled a small hole, locks them in tight for cheap, simple to remove and secure again after use

I just drilled a small hole through the top of the bumper, cover, and bottom and use a long skinny bolt and a wingnut. It works great. I used the covers mentioned earlier that you push in, but those worked loose, too. BTW, I don't keep anything in my bumper and still lost them.
