Back-up Camera help

Hello. I'm new here.

I just picked up my new trailer Monday and I am STOKED!

Have a question for folks in the know and can maybe help out a new guy.

I have the Wildwood X-lite 230BHXL and love it (I'm a sponsored cyclist and pro bike mechanic)...it is going to be my mobile "race HQ" (laughing).

OK...the dealer told me that an option to really think about is a back-up camera. They had one in their catalog, and I didn't buy on then (they are 1+ hour away). They also pointed out the mount high up on the back of the trailer. They also said they "are not too hard to mount."

I've been on their website, and of course, there are pages of cameras to choose from, with no real explanation of compatibility!

Does anyone know what camera kit would work? I don't need the super-mega, just the wireless kind 'blue-toothed' to the vehicle.

This would be huge, as I'm often going to events by myself!

Thanks!

Rick

Yes sir.

I'm in Amazon, and it's just hard to assure I'm getting one that can "plug right in" like the dealer told me. I can't find ones with compatibility charts.

They literally told me that the camera part plugs right into the mount, and the viewing screen needs a power supply in the vehicle.

??

Is it the Furrion camera mount on the back of your trailer?

If so, they are incredibly easy to mount. You remove the face plate, there is a wire inside, you plug the camera wire into the trailer wire (its about as easy as plugging headphones into a computer) and then just put the screws in, done.

Keep in mind, there are two different versions. There is a back up camera version that is on when you have the vehicle in reverse, and there is an observation camera. Most people prefer the observation camera because it is on all the time (the power is from the lights, so when you are towing, turn your headlights on, and the camera is on). The back up camera has a "12" in the model number, the observation camera has a "48" in the number (I believe the model numbers are exactly the same except for the number). Again, all of that is based on Furrion

check your mount for a name or post a picture of the mount. Mine has a Furion but I believe there are others.

Real easy to install, 4 small screws and a power connector. the camera will get power from the tail lights so parking lights or headlights must be on. I would be concerend about the cheap ones having the range. the furion for operation while driving is supposed to have better range then the backup only version

If the factory mount is on your unit than it is most likely a Furrion camera. Use the search bar here in the forum to get more info about Furrion backup cameras.

More then likely it is prepped for the furion unit. Very easy to install. I ordered mine at Walmart.com for the best price (normally stay away from Walmart) There were to different models. I believe the only difference was picture quality? If I remember one is called back up only and the other is called observation?

Great input folks. Yes, the mount says 'FURION' on it!

So they are all compatible, mount-wise I take it?

in the Furion line there are the 2 versions listed above and they use the same mount.

you can buy the camera & display without the mount however it is generally a little cheaper to buy it with the mount and just discard the new mount as it is not needed.

the hardest part for me was not dropping the screws as they are fairly small

This would be my recommendation: FOS48TAPK-BL

If you look at the shroud where the camera goes on the back of your trailer, and it's a Furrion, it should say a Furrion FOS48TA-BL. I'm picking up mine in just a bit here. Reviews seem really good and from what I have read on the forum here, very easy to set up. etrailer and eBay have them for $359

nowadays i’d say their all pretty dang good. just look at the distance the camera should be from the monitor and look to see if it’s 1080P or anything close and then read the reviews. ALL of them. a lot of people post actual pictures with their reviews
