Bad thermostat?

Has anyone else had this problem? Have an analog furnace only thermostat. After picking it up from storage the furnace kicked on with the t-stat in off and gas off too. Was about 40 out that day.

On those thermostats, you have to make sure to slide the control full left. When you get to what you think is the end of travel, push again, and it will "click" in to the "off" position.
