Bed shocks stripped out?

Why do RV manufacturers screw the bed lift shocks into particle board. In my experience they always strip out. Mine has already stripped and its only three weeks old. Why don't they drill it out and use dome head bolts and never have an issue.

If they use particle board anywhere in an RV they should be lynched.

That is how I fixed my stripped out screws.

Don't start looking at your camper or you'll be out buying some rope.

You will find LOTs of (Plood) paper covered partical or pressed wood! Youroo!! While you are at it change the mount angle to help keep the bed top up,esp.if you have added a topper or mem. foam! Youroo!!

Talking

Old coot is right don't look to close. Except for some door fronts its all particle board or chip board unless you paid six figures for your rig. If forest river took the extra time and money to do these jobs right in the first place people would care less what its made of.

I have fixed problems like this a couple of ways.

1. Same as mentioned above. (Bolt & Nut)

2. Use a wooden golf tee:
Use good quality wood glue and glue the golf tee into the hole. When dry, trim off the excess and then pre-drill a new hole right into the tee. replace the screw and you are better than new.

3. Same as above but use a 1/2" wooden dowel.
You will need a good 1/2" drill bit.
Drill a hole and glue in a piece of the dowel.
Pre-drill a hole for the screw and you're good to go.
I have used this many times for stripped out holes in door jambs.
(I saw a guy use wooden toothpicks to do the same thing once)

I really don't like particle board but it's here to stay I'm afraid.
