Best Lubricant

I have been using WD40 on my hinges, retractable steps, latches, etc. I was speaking to friend who has a boat and says that he uses Boeshield which protects from rust better and lasts longer than WD40. When reading up on Boeshield it says that it leaves a waxy coating (which is why it would protect better from rust) but I am concerned that dirt and grit would adhere to the waxy coating. Has anyone found a lubricant that protects from rust and is long lasting without leaving a sticky coating?

Spray silicone lubricant. Recommended by Lippert for use on the hydraulic ram rods on our slides and on the levelers. From the description:

LubeMaster is the ideal lubricant for tow bars - it's a dry silicone, which does not attract dirt or road grime that can cause binding. LubeMaster is also great on awning arms, window tracks, folding steps, or for hundreds of other applications around the home and RV.

I found it to be great stuff.
