It is also known that beer will clear up pea soup colored water in a water garden. But it really is a waste of good beer, so if you pour beer in your pond, use Milwaukee's Best. Or what we used to call welfare beer. 10 cents a can.

I find that while it does clear up the pea soup color in the fish pond it is very difficult to get the stupid grin off my fishes faces.

Hence, the phrase: "he (or she) drinks like a fish".

I don't know. Nor do I know who first figured it out. I have theorized that it could be barley or hops in the beer, but I am just guessing.

I know tossing an old mesh onion bag full of barley straw into the pond will clear out some of the algae but you wouldn't think there would be enough "barley" left in a few cans of beer to make a difference. Interesting.

Dan original question that started this thread.
" Black holding tank will not drain"
Now we are talking about drunk fish?
We've come a long way.

Barley bales are a tried and true algae deterrent. I have no idea about the ingredients in beer. Tis a puzzlement.
