Camping stove.
Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes. We have a Sidekick grill that broke. Not sure we can get a replacement part. Haven't called yet.
We would like to replace it with a propane stove. Any suggestions as to brand or type that would work well and also could use the mounting bracket on the Flagstaff side?

here's the company's website for the Sidekick:
http://www.flemingsalesoem.com/outdo...ited/index.htm
almost all propane stoves are high-pressure and won't work with the low pressure line that the Sidekick uses.
i think of all the discussions about a stove to replace it, there were very few low-pressure stoves made. i think one was from a brand of popup and the other was very expensive.

I'm a little out of my league with the characteristics of the Flagstaff TT, but what about this one?
http://www.rvqgrill.com/
Under the accessories section, it shows that they sell low pressure regulator for it...so maybe it would work? Maybe give em a jingle and see what they say. If not, then i guess nothing lost...but i'll keep looking.

Joe, here's my spin on the issue.....
Many portable camp stoves are made to work right off the gas bottle.
These mostly use the little screw on disposable LP gas bottles that you buy
in the sporting goods isle of your favorite store but they would work straight
off your LP tank-- EXCEPT your trailer has a pressure reducing regulator on the tank.
So these portable camp stoves would not receive enough pressure to work properly if
you connected them to the REGULATED LP gas line in your trailer.
The RVQ IS made for regulated pressure so it should be fine connected to
your trailer LP gas system.
If you buy the RVQ you don't need another regulator because your
trailer already has one.
I think I've got that right and I'm sure folks will correct me if I'm wrong!
Happy Camping!!

Dan is right. All your RV appliances run off 11" WC (Water Column) pressure. RVQ's are designed to run off that pressure as well. Most all other grills/stoves run off higher pressure. If you can find one that runs off 11" after regulation you could, in theory, remove the regulator and connect it directly to the RV's gas supply line. To me it would be much better to buy a unit already designed for that service.

Awwww crap....
I was just getting the stuff together to tap into my gas line under my rig for my little propane grill (uses them little high dollar bottles) hoping to save a bit of cash in the long run on those things. All I'm lacking right now for parts is a cut-off valve to attach to the main gas line. I've got the hose and quick disco parts already. I never even thought of the flippin pressure difference issue. DANG IT!!
ARGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
There has to be someway to salvage my project. I guess I can always just disco one of the tanks and connect directly to there with a grill regulator. Crap.

Greg, You could use something like this and a hose long enough to reach and keep your cylinders hooked up too.
It's called an Extend-A-Flow adaptor.

So if I'm looking at this thing right, this adaptor would reside on the tank and the RV regulator would connect to one outlet and my superduper extra long hose would connect to the other outlet.
I'm still annoyed at myself for not thinking about the pressure issue.

Yep, you're right! The plastic "nut" (on the left) connects to your cylinder, your pigtail from the regulator connects to the male threaded end (to the right), then your "superduper" hose would connect to the 1" 20tpi fitting (on top) and to your superduper stove/grill/heater/flame thrower. (Ok maybe not the flame thrower)

how do you know I don't have a flame thrower??
I'm still annoyed to find that the pressure is too low for those 1lb bottle propane grills. I figured that the pressure requirments would be less for them than the standard grills.

Greg,
Plan B could be to go to harbor freight and get the adapter where you can
re-fill your disposable LP bottles from a full 20 or 30 pound LP tank.
The trick is to put the disposable bottle in the fridge so it's cold.
Attach said bottle to said adapter and to the disposable bottle.
Turn the big tank upside down and open the valve.
It will partially fill your throw away bottle.
It's a hassle but it saves tossing the bottle and you don't need all that
stuff you just bought and installed!!

don't the new valves on the propane tanks prevent the LPG from coming out when you tip the tank over?
I'll just get me one of those splitters and place it on one of my big tanks as I already have a line

I'm not sure.
I know the new tanks have a float valve that shuts off when the tank
is full.
The float would move up towards the valve to do this.
If you turned the tank upside down, the float would tend to move towards
the bottom of the tank and it "should" be open.
That's my theory and it might be totally wrong.
I do know that Harbor Freight used to sell the adapter and I've read and even
spoken to folks who were re-filling their small disposable LP bottles.
They may have been using the old style tanks.
I have not tried it myself and you might be right.
Anyone out there know for sure??????

I just got the Harbor Freight sale ad. The sell a 2 burner propane stove for $25. It is a low pressure stove. Just buy a quick fit male extension hose and you are good to go. I am getting one this week.
They have a web site to buy from if you do not have a store.

update on my grill project
It CAN be done and I've almost got all the parts to complete it.
As stated previously the regulated pressure off of the RV is 11" WC. This also happens to be the regulated pressure of off gas grills AFTER their own regulator.
If you bypass the regulator on a standard gas grill (remove the regulated line and connect directly) to the valve line it WILL work. I tried it this weekend.
The problem I am encountering with the small "portable" 1lb bottle grill that I'm working on is that the regulator and flame control are all in the same unit. I am working right now on the final parts procurement, a flame control valve, and some reducing fittings to attach to the LPG injector that fits into the venturi tube. If I cannot find the correct reducing fittings for the existing injector I will make my own injector. I'll have something working in the next couple of weeks pending time with a "how to" thread.

I have an adapter to fill the small disposable bottles from the large ones and it works fine. I always freeze the small bottle first and leave the big one in the sun if possible and it almost fills the disposable to 100%. I always turn the large bottle upside down to fill the small one and I have always had success. I purchased the fitting online from Cabelas for around $45 CDN delivered and it has paid off in 2 years. I am still using the same disposables as well.
